An unusually powerful storm is threatening the East Coast of the U.S. this week with heavy snow, high winds, and record-shattering cold not seen in some places since the early 20th Century if at all.
The storm will be the result of a combination of three strong pieces of atmospheric energy, known to meteorologists as shortwaves.
Think of these shortwaves as protein bars for storm formation. This particular storm, which is already beginning to form off the coast of Florida, will devour enough of them to allow it to become so powerful that it will contain hurricane force winds by the time it moves off the Mid-Atlantic coast late Wednesday night.
Because of the cold air in place ahead of the storm, winter storm watches and advisories for this event have been issued as far south as Florida, all the way northward to Massachusetts, which is nearly unheard of.

Well, as long as they don’t use coal or oil to stave off the cold, it should be all good.
So DID she freeze?
Nahh 0 when it get 40 below here we ditch the car, break out the cutter, hook up the Morgans and go out for a moonlight sleigh ride with hot bricks warming our toes.

I live near the Maine coast.
We’re supposed to get wind gusts up to 50 MPH Thursday evening along with 8 - 16 inches of snow with white out conditions.
Christmas Day was also white out conditions with up to 12 inches of snow, followed by bitter cold.
Today the high was 9 above zero, and the low 9 below zero.
New Years Day.....the low in Portland, Maine was 16 below; the low in Bangor, Maine was 24 below zero.
I wish Al Gore and the pope would visit Maine and enjoy all this global warming.
WHY DID YOU LET THE OLD LADY FREEZE?

I foresee another tweet from POTUS if this does happen. Hopefully it will be even more inflammatory than his last global warming tweet!
Time to get my bread, eggs and milk!
Global warming of course!
Don’t forget toilet paper. Around here it’s milk, bread and tp.
We were visiting my son in NH for Christmas.
Got nailed with that one.
Around here it’s milk, bread, and eggs, AKA the French Toast Winter Storm Trinity.
I’m not sure about the NY one.
Neverdem used to hold it but he suddenly stopped posting some time back and I don’t know if anyone knows what happened to him.
At one time there was a FR ping list thread. Someone used to keep track and update everyone who held ping lists and what they were for, but that hasn’t happened in a long time either so I’ve lost track.
However, I do know that Tilted Irish Kilt has the prepper ping list.
Our mom sent us out twice a day to milk the cows. She made bread from wheat we grow on our farm.
It’s called self sufficiency.
Meteorologist on Channel 3 in Philly admits that 24 hours before the event she still isn’t sure just how much impact the storm will have on the city by way of snowfall, duration, temperature changes and the rest - right after the newsreaders ahead of her clucked over a story about chocolate becoming “extinct” all over the world in thirty years because of global warming - what is wrong with these people!!.......
