Stargazers are in luck for the new yearits going to kick off with a stellar start. On New Years Day, a supermoon is going to light up the sky. But, not just any supermoon. Its going to be the largest one of 2018.
Its best to catch a view of the full moon shortly after sunset, but if youd rather stay indoors and watch the moon from the comfort of your own home, heres a couple of sites hosting livestreams of the event.
Slooh, an astronomy broadcasting service, is offering a free webcast of the New Years Day supermoon. Their video will go live on January 1 at 9:00 p.m. EST.

Earthquake conditions?
California has been real quiet.
Too quiet.
I’m going to guess, go outside at night, look up, there it is.
The werewolves are going to be pumped!
Down at Trader Jim’s. Their hair is perfect.
Owoooooooooooooooooooo!
Cut that out. I gotta say, though, your hair is perfect.
It’s -5 out tonight here in CNY and go figure, the night you DON’T want to be outside for astronomical stuff, it’s clear, too.
I’ll peek at it from the bedroom window, thankyouverymuch, and that is the closest to outside I’m getting.
I saw the moon rising in Seattle around 5:30 PM local time.
Completely by accident. And completely magnificent.
I thought the largest moon of the year was last month, but we had rain and clouds that evening, so I couldn’t see it, and I just forgot about it.
Anyway, today I’m walking home from the grocery store, perfectly clear northeast skies, about an hour past sunset, and I see this huge bright light in the space between two 30 floor buildings.
What the heck? It’s the freaking moon!
Unfortunately, my view was blocked the rest of the way home, but I stood and stared at it for a couple minutes, which was quite thrilling.
I could do with a bowl of beef chow mein. I was listening to Jimmy Church’s podcast earlier today. His guest was a Vedic astrologer (whatever that is . . .) who said (among many other fantastical things) that the New Madrid fault could give a major lurch in 2018. And in fact the level of the Mississippi River has fallen dramatically during 2017, which is exactly what happened before New Madrid’s last major quake — the one in which the flow of the river was reversed for several days.
Thanks for the information!
Much appreciated information. Will definitely poke my nose out into the cold to see.
Cloudy here in North ‘Bama...I’ll do my ‘Super Moon’ dance anyway.....
