One year, “Santa” left a price tag on one of the gifts in my stocking.......that was it for me.

Had a coworker tell me that her daughter whispered to her that the mall Santa was not the real Santa. She could see the beard wrap around his head.

I sympathized with my coworker but told her that at least she now knows that her daughter can recognize the real Santa.

I told my kids(now grown) and my grand kids that Santa needs helpers. You never know which one is the real Santa,so treat them all like they were Santa.

Mine figured it out pretty quick - I think more from school then on their own, but they knew I enjoyed it so they still play along for me at 18/20 though the eye rolls grow each year. Lol

Once I knew it was getting close I started sharing the historical St. Nicholas and upped my Linus speeches.

My wife didn’t grow up with it in Japan like I did so her favorite holiday is New Years. It actually makes the season a little longer for us.

Who here hates the stupid Elf on the Shelf fakery these young parents use?!

I say, if you cannot make your kids behave with threats of naughty lists and no oresents and coal in stocking you should just give your kids away!

I was traumatized when my folks told me Santa wasn’t real, but I recovered quickly and managed to go to work the next day.

Yeah, Santa’s a degenerate peeking in on kids all year knowing what they’re up to.

I find it (Elf on the Shelf) off putting as well. Don’t even know why, but I rolled my eyes from the first time I heard of it. Perhaps it’s the manipulation?

Neither my husband or I grew up believing that Santa was real, so we never encouraged our kids to believe it either. I want them to know that they can always trust us to be truthful. We know Jesus is real; Santa and the tooth fairy are just fun games.

Our second oldest recently told about a study he read that even fun lies, such as Santa, can damage the parent-child relationship.

It could be that I’m just a stick in the mud, but I’m grateful that every parent has the freedom to do what they think is best for their children. My kids (ages 4-18) love Christmas, the older ones have all been excited to buy gifts for their siblings as soon as they were old enough to earn their own money. Not believing in Santa hasn’t detracted from their joy.

No, coal, just socks every Christmas from now on until he's a teenager. Then, socks and ties.

Moral: do not be in a big hurry to grow up.

St. Nicholas the bishop is real, and what he did was real. (Gold in a sock down the chimney of a poor family in his bishopric in turkey.) Nowadays all he can do is hope that his example stirs up modern imitators. Yes I do think that creating a sense of wonder in children at Advent is a good thing. No I do not think that raining plastic toys from China down on your children qualifies as imitation or creates that wonder.

Oh my! What would you do with a kid like him? HAhahaha.

I remember well when I first learned Santa wasn’t real. It was devastating.

You'd think the CIA would be begging for Santa's services.

We taught our kids that the world plays pretending there’s a Santa every year and we all have a great time because we all ‘keep that secret’ that he isn’t real.....it’s NEVER to be discussed! HAHAHA!......
