"It appears she was taken to the ground, lost consciousness, and the dogs then mauled her to death,...The area where they found the victims body was covered in blood, Agnew said, adding that it took at least eight hours for investigators to collect over 60 pieces of evidence. "It was an absolutely grisly mauling," Sheriff Agnew said. "In my 40 years of law enforcement I've never seen anything quite like it.

The problem with pit bulls is they are trained by owners to fight. They just don’t admit it.
My personal motto: better to have it & not need it, then need it & not have it.
Wise words indeed.
Socialization and training were not a part of their upbringing.
It is odd that those dogs weighed about 125lbs. While staffordshire terriers are larger than pits, they range between 60 to 80 lbs.
If those dogs were bred for fighting, they were most likely an unaltered male and female pair, a potential formula for disaster.
I would wager that most instances where multiple dog homes have violent encounters with dogs that there are unaltered pairs and a female in heat.

her decision was fatally stupid...darwin award
my leashed golden retriever was attacked by a pit as we walked out of the dog groomers fortunately i got my leg up to deflect the pit who was going for my retrievers throat 11 stitches $200 for my dog and fortunately none for me the owner was a homeless AH who had a belt for a collar/leash and was not holding it. he made the stupid remark that his dog just wanted to jump my female and have some fun. I am thankful that I was not carrying a weapon at that time as I’m not sure which one I would have dropped (first).
I think they misspelled Goochland, Va.
And her other dog was a blue merle Great Dane.
No idea what the smaller dog really is but it’s not a “pit”.
Black bears won’t.
Her area is full of them.
You should have clicked on through to her FB profile.
She was an accomplished equestrian [English] an avid gun rights supporter and someone who really would have blended in here, quite well.
Her whole family is rather upper middle class and equestrian sports are *not* cheap hobbies.
Nothing in her profile suggested she would be into “dog fighting”.
Indeed, the other dog found there was undoubtedly her blue merle Great Dane.
What if something *else* happened to her, out in those woods?
Bears, mountain lions...one of the humans who routinely commented on her beauty?
I *hope* someone down there has a little forensic expertise because this just sounds “off”.
It’s Goochland...the town name is a typo.
Sorry, most of ya probably never had pits. I had 1 and she was the most docile dog outside of a fixed huge German Rott who was the most docile.(my 3 dobi/pits today are her offspring and are quite fine) Her dad who I also knew was quite docile. The best watch dog I ever had was a 1/2 heeler and 1/2 pit adopted from some young ranch girls outside Kroger. She was the best and the smartest. I think #1 you must show your dog who the boss is. You are the Alpha regardless if it’s a chiwawa or hot dog. You are in charge.
Having said that, I’ve been raised with dogs for 60 years and the worse dog I ever had was a high breed wolf who looked 100% wolf. He was the worse animal I ever owned. A definite liability waiting to happen. This dog/wolf often and always went ballistic whenever anything was different outside. I fretted for almost a year to have him put down. The slightest noise of a child riding a big wheel down our very rural road would set him off.
I just wish people out here would keep their dogs up on their own property. Cats, I don’t care but don’t let your dogs loose.

I know some otherwise sensible people who just coo over them. It’s not just that they’re dangerous. They’re also hideous and stupid. And all the rescue kennels are so dominated by this breed you might as well not bother to look for a lovable pooch.
I’m watching her FB page, which is still up and running and the “pit” thing is apparently a moot point.
She did not own any “pits”.
She had a Great Dane and that brindle dog, who one of her friends said was a “bull breed mix” which could mean literally any kind of mastiff type dog mixed with who knows what.
From some of the comments, it seems like possible FReepers are chiming in, saying she deserved it for “owning pit bulls”.
No idea how long the family will let her FB page up but it’s unbelievable what’s happening there.
She had a Great Dane and that brindle bull breed dog, no pits.
Both dogs were male.
