Norman Lear, age 95 and about to be honored by the Kennedy Center, never stops. He is some kind of living miracle. Today a casting call went out for his new series. His NEW series. In the 1970s, Lear produced landmark comedies like All in the Family, Maude, The Jeffersons, Good Times.
Lear already has a hit Latino version of his 70s sitcom One Day at a Time on Netflix. But hes not going to stop there.
Now, with TV veteran Peter Tolan, hes got Guess Whos Dead? a droll comedy set in a Palm Springs nursing home with frisky post Golden Girl types. There are also young people as regulars, so the whole thing isnt liver spots. The show comes from NBC and Sony.
Last year at the Austin Film Festival, Lear and Tolan tested out a reading of a pilot script. Robert Walden (from Lou Grant) and Oscar nominee June Squibb (Nebraska) played Murray and Patricia, a Jew and an Irish Catholic who fall in love when Murrays wife whos also her sister, dies. You can see a clip here:
Sick, really depraved
Heard it from at least two nurses who have worked in retirement communities, the STD’s are going around. They may be old and gnarly, but they still have motors.
Had an in-law that worked in a nursing home.
The stories she tells are flabbergasting!....................
Nope not gonna watch that. I see they have a new reality show on...married to a convict. Not kidding, it starts in January.
I can write the opening scene ...
Two elderly resident men are seated
near the wall when a fetching nurse passes.
The first man excitedly exclaims, “Superpu**y!”
His friend replies, “I’ll have the soup.”
Yeah, my step-dad in on the dementia unit. I can tell ya’ stories of what I’ve seen on many visits. We’re all human and God’s children.
I despise Lear. I’m sure the show will be trash. Did he copy this from a “Britcom” like he did others?
Another sick old liberal bastard.
It’s gonna be “The Golden Girls” meets “Animal House”.................
Norman Lear always interested in whatever can get him the most attention, and also whatever takes a jab at the Christian population.
Cannot stand not to be the center attention. Has an over
inflated sense of his own worth.
At least Heffner had someone to change his diapers in his final years.
He could do a show about how many residents are neglected by family and staff, mistreated, lonely, and it isn’t all the staffs’ fault.
Many facilities have too few aides to too many residents. Few nurses, and while most try to do a good job, there are some bad actors in the field.
He should be ashamed. Most of the elderly do not have the money he has to be able to afford first class care.
Way to go, Norman. Give the world and America another completely skewed view.
Something tells me they only assign him male staff.
perhaps an Americanized takeoff of the Bayview Retirement Home?
Wow. Not a single laugh to be found in that mess.
Yeah, they are a couple of ‘ladies’ after my step-dad. He’s still handsome and has awesome hair (which the patients love to touch). He wants NOTHING to do with them. They meander in and out of his room when we are there......and give my mom the”stink eye”. She gives it right back. LOL!
My Dad had an advantage...my Mom died long ago and he never remarried so he had nobody he had to be faithful to.And he,too, seemed to be uninterested...possibly due to his brain disorder. It was kinda sad actually.
Spot on.....but we are blessed to have an excellent care home and are well trained. The nurses and aids LOVE my step-dad and dote on him. He is a man of faith and always has a smile for them. I just adore him and want the best for him.
