The British branch of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) have called for Maureen OHaras fur coasts to be withdrawn from the auction set to take place in Durrow, County Laois.
The auction, hosted by Sheppards auctioneers, will include furniture, furs and jewelry once belonging to the late, great Quiet Man star, Maureen OHara. Ahead of Wednesdays auction PETA has sent an urgent letter to the Irish auction house calling for the late actors mink and sable coats to be removed from sale and donated to its fur amnesty program instead.
The collection, formerly held by Maureen OHara in her former West Cork home, includes a Christian Dior full-length white mink coat. The actress was often photographed wearing the coat, which is trimmed with Arctic fox fur and lined throughout with silk.
Their argument is that times have changed, and Hollywood glamor is now what it was. In a statement, PETA Director Elisa Allen said, Whereas decades ago, silver screen stars may have considered animal pelts glamorous, thats unthinkable today, given what we know about the cruel fur industry.

PETA = Idiots.
They should just bid at the auction and pay her estate the value. Then everyone would be happy
They made a coat out of Maureen O’Hara? Gross!
I knew the woman had some fabulous "assets" but I think this may be a bit of an exaggeration...
I still have my fox, mink and seal coats. Furs are forever.
Oh, they “demand” do they?
If these fur coats are donated to PETA, we can put them to good use in our educational displays, hand them out to homeless people, or use them as bedding for orphaned animals."
What a great idea! I'm sure the homeless people would wear them rather than sell them for cash. Really? I'm surprised Allen can fog a mirror without help.
Nuh-uh!
Good. I wanted to kill and skin a new animal instead of getting an old coat anyway.
...that should bring all of those dead animals back to life again ...
Hand them out to the homeless? Take them home and sell them on Ebay after wearing them a few times is more likely.
PETA euthanizes the animals it claims to save.
They are among the biggest hypocrites plaguing society today.
Furs are Forever? Just wait till some PETA freak throws a can of red paint on you going out to dinner some evening....................
PETA thinks furs are an atrocity, but trading in the body parts of murdered babies is OK.
They’re dead, Jim. Been that way for many years. You can’t save them. What difference does it make now? Maybe PETA should buy them and bury them. What else do you do with them?

The great Ms. O’Hara is my favorite actress....What a smart, tough lady she was to hold her own against the Duke and the Old Man!
