Among the Australians upgrading their shower, 68 per cent increased its size, with 64 per cent switching over to rainfall showerheads or 62 per cent handheld showerheads.

Around 22 per cent of homeowners included a bathtub large enough to fit a couple while 12 per cent upgraded their showers to accommodate two people.

The study found white was the preferred colour for walls, cabinets and bench tops - and often accented by grey flooring.

Up to 12 per cent of homeowners are getting high-tech upgrade to their bathrooms, including digital controls and built-in sound for showers and self-cleaning and overflow protection for toilets.

That’s about what happened, and then they moved to Chicago!

That’s a kitchen for cooking with friends. Lots of room, lots of counter space, separation so people don’t get in each other’s way and a feeling of openness. Great choice.

And yet is it not so big and expansive that I couldn’t see myself making a simple meal for one.

But I could definitely see me making a big Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner or any other meal for a crowd in that kitchen or having my 6 great nieces over for a sleep over and they and me making a big breakfast together or baking Christmas cookies. The only thing I would change is perhaps instead of the oven below the range, double wall ovens.

Looking at people in high rise windows is a sport there.

And sitting there drinking your coffee or tea in the morning and just relaxing. I chose a counter stovetop and use the area under for storage. Prefer a wall oven because I don’t lean over. The problem in that kitchen is losing another piece of counter space or a window. I suppose it would have to be the counter to the right, which is probably next to the refrigerator.

A friend who is a professional photographer just photographed a new & very expensive house. She told me that the master bathroom had a toilet IN the shower! I’m sorry that is beyond gross.

I remember seeing a shower in a magazine fifty years ago. Glass doors, rock walls just like an outdoor cliff pool. It really looked nice.
So I says to myself, HOW will they clean the soap scum buildup off the rocks?

I’ll take an old fashioned shower any day.

A toilet IN the shower?!

Was that a design blunder? I like how Europeans do the dramatic opposite: put the toilet tucked far away from the shower/bath and sink, in a separate nook, with its own, separate sink. Why in the name of God would anybody want a toilet in the shower?

As a kid, I would sneak out of bed in the middle of the night and look out the windows using my dad’s transit level.

Never saw anything of note, but it was exciting, anyway.

My tile installer taught me to have a hand shower so that I could wash down all the walls after showering. But he also said to squeegee the walls and wipe them with a white towel, and those two things you couldn’t do with the rocks. The tile sealer for the art tiles instructed me to wash them and dry them thoroughly after a shower and I get no buildup. I just have to put aside an extra 15 min for shower cleaning each time.

I still have the finder scope for my telescope, but everyone is upside down.

I like these showers, with no glass to clean or curtain to change, or transition bump to step over:

Actually, they are right side up in the scope. Your eyeballs deliver upside-down images to your brain, which flips the image. They put image flipping goggles on chickens once, and after a time, the chickens started seeing right side up, again. Or they just quit complaining about it...

Yes! I really love all the windows in that kitchen. I love lots of natural light in a house period.

I have lower back issues so bending over to lift a heavy items like a big pan of lasagna or a roasted turkey out of the oven is an issue for me. I was until recently living at my nephew’s house and he and his wife, who is an amazing cook and baker, upgraded their electric stove to a gas range with a griddle in the middle and two ovens below. It was a great improvement but getting anything out of, especially the lower oven was a real problem for me on the occasions when I cooked or baked for them.

But my ultimate dream kitchen would also have a convenient butler’s pantry therefore having more storage space and making more room for a double wall oven without sacrificing cabinet or counter space, a place to also store counter top appliances and other items not needed every day and keeping the kitchen more clutter free. I’d also have a deep freezer and a small extra fridge in the garage.

I can only dream….

Beautifully done. Wonderful use of small space. And the artwork tile is magnificent.

We have 2 large terraces. When this is your outside space the inside space only needs to be nice and comfortable.

Except for polishing it! I put antiques into our rec vehicle and traveled with a silver teapot. Only way I could leave home was by pretending I was still home.
