The county plans to permanently close the west side of the flood-control channel between 17th Street in Santa Ana and Adams Avenue in Huntington Beach as it prepares to start maintenance of Orange County Flood Control District property along the trail, officials have said. Before maintenance begins, Orange County Public Works officials have been tasked with cleaning debris and trash from the former encampment in Fountain Valley. Puckett said officials found a .357 magnum containing three empty shell casings indicating to authorities that it had been fired near the camp. The Sheriffs Department is investigating where the gun came from. The trail was deserted Friday afternoon. Orange bags filled with trash were lined up waiting to be hauled away.
Nearby residents said most of the homeless people who had set up camp there packed up and left within three days of the countys enforcement effort.
Gillan said the area is quiet and getting cleaner every day.
County officials hope to keep it that way. The Board of Supervisors voted Tuesday to pay California Panther Security $450,000 annually over the next two years to have unarmed security guards open and close gates along the trail and report trespassers to the Sheriffs Department, according to a county staff report.

"...1000 bicycles..."
Bum crap.
Ping
Stolen, probably.
Were entering the age of Big Homelessness.
what a waste of money. why cant it be an assigned duty at the police department for any car patrolling the area or given to the city park’s departments as an assigned duty. this says political pay off to me. another option put it up as a bid contract. I bet that one of the home security companies can do it for 10,000 a year or even less.
"...stolen, probably..."
That would be my guess.
Also, many seem to like toddler trailers; they can carry all their stuff w them. Handier than the shopping cart, one suspects.
How can anyone steal 1000 bikes and amass them in one location without drawing attention to themselves?
Heck- the homeless coulda sold the bikes and all gotten apartments to live in
The homeless apartments are free, but they are tiny.
That’s why they’re called stay-free mini-pads.
"Pinky, if I could reach you, I would *hurt* you."
...that is it say, nice pun!
A trend seems to claiming these people are mentally ill and therefore victims.
I contend their mental illnesses are largely self inflicted from drugs and alcoholism.
They turn down offered help since that has conditions.

I was at least expecting a ‘tunnel under San Ysidro or some other border town.
I would imagine everyone knows the drainage tunnel is there... If and when SoCal has a major downpour they are worth it.
As to the 450 grand, WE all are paying for that as long as the FED ‘allows’ the state deductions to remain...

Oh, yeah? What kind?”””””””””””””
Them guys from American Pickers would love to go there.
