Blue States Practice the Family Values Red States Preach
New York Slimes ^ | November, 18, 2017 | Nicholas Kristof

Posted on 11/18/2017 8:07:32 PM PST by EdnaMode

As we watch Roy Moore thumping his Bible to defend himself from accusations of child molestation, let me toss out a verbal hand grenade: To some degree, liberals practice the values that conservatives preach.

This is complicated terrain with lots of exceptions, and the recent scandals involving Harvey Weinstein, Louis C.K. and Al Franken underscore that liberals can be skunks as much as anyone else. Yet if one looks at blue and red state populations as a whole, it’s striking that conservatives champion “family values” even as red states have high rates of teenage births, divorce and prostitution. In contrast, people in blue states don’t trumpet these family values but often seem to do a better job living them.

According to the Youth Risk Behavior Survey of 32 states, those with the highest percentage of high school students who say they have had sex are Mississippi, Delaware, West Virginia, Alabama and Arkansas. All but Delaware voted Republican in the last presidential election.

Meanwhile, the five states with the lowest proportion of high school students who have had sex were New York, California, Maryland, Nebraska and Connecticut. All but Nebraska voted Democratic.

When evangelical kids have sex, they’re less likely to use birth control — and that may be a reason (along with lower abortion rates) that red states have high teen birthrates.

Nine of the 10 states with the highest teen birthrates voted Republican in 2016. And nine of the 10 states with the lowest teen birthrates voted Democratic.

“Red regions of the country have higher teen pregnancy rates, more shotgun marriages and lower average ages at marriage and first birth,” Naomi Cahn and June Carbone wrote in their important 2010 book, “Red Families v. Blue Families.”

The writer forgot to mention that 9 out of the top 10 states with the highest abortion rates are blue states (DC was counted). That includes New York and California, so it's hard to believe they were among the states which had the lowest percentage of teen sex.

Don’t forget that abortion is a leftist/secularist ‘family value’.

Don’t forget that abortion is a leftist/secularist ‘family value’. As is euthenizing the old and disabled.

Break it out by county and you have an entirely different picture. Leftist Detroit behaves a lot worse than the remainder of Michigan. The same goes with Chicago, Philadelphia, etc.

According to this article, blue states have the 8 highest teenage abortion rates. This author claims that NYC had the lowest rate of teen sex. What BS.

1 New York 32
2 Delaware 28
3 New Jersey 24
4 Hawaii 23
5 Maryland 22
6 Connecticut 20
7 Nevada 20
8 California 19
9 Florida 19
10 Alaska 17

Liberals have absolutely no moral authority to criticize Roy Moore when they ignored and covered up for Bill Clinton, Ted Kennedy, and others.

He also failed to point out how many of the Red States are home to huge percentages of African Americans.

That is where you have a issue with crime, drug use, prostitution, teen/unmarried pregnancies and dropping out of school.

Do whites do these things? Of course, but the percentages are higher in the black communities. Far more blacks in Alabama than Oregon, or in Mississippi versus Massachusetts.

When viewed county by county nearly all states are red states. Checkout the 2016 election map :

The modern day Sodom and Gomorrah areas appear to be highlighted in blue.

He’s fudging around the statistics, but there’s an element of truth to what he’s saying. I live in a suburb just outside of San Francisco, and nearly every kid in my neighborhood, of which there are plenty, lives in a two-parent household. The annoying thing to me about the educated affluent white liberals that I’m often surrounded with, is that they adopt pretty traditional family values in their own lives, even as they vote for these Democrats who are destroying traditional families as a matter of public policy. It’s basically, broken families for thee, but not for me.

I live in a very blue state, what we do see in common with red states is behavior in minority populations from low Socio-economic status areas. Whites from low SES areas in red states suffer from the same issues: Teen pregnancy and serial relationships that produce children.

What I’ve always been curious about is the strange phenomena of serial marriages in red states. It’s similar in minority communities in blue states, except they don’t necessarily get married.

I spend a portion of the year in coastal North Carolina, where there are more churches per square mile than anywhere else I’ve been, and yet many of the people I’ve met are on marriage 3 or 4.
I’m not sure how they can afford this...

Delve into those states you’ll find for instance that the conservative areas of Connecticut are far less likely to have high rates of divorce, abortion, crime, etc. than the liberal areas.

Typical lies telling half the story. The red states in the South have a very high percentage of the population belonging to a certain dysfunctional demographic.

This huge demographic element did not vote for President Trump. They live on the Democrat plantation. This is the demographic in the South which is responsible for most of the murders and rapes and sexual assaults and other violent crimes.

And there is a secondary demographic in these states which also has a high level of dysfunction such as child sexual abuse. Many of this demographic are not even Americans but live here as illegals. These people shouldn't vote but if they did they didn't vote for President Trump.

In the American South, most of the dysfunction can be laid at the feet of these "Blue State" voters.

The author talked about highs book students, not teenagers so a n 16 year-old dropout did not count. Very selective parsing to get the results he wanted. So she result; the author is a POS a moral scalawag

I bet 75% or more of abortions are teenage pregnancies.
