"Challenges associated with finding food have long been recognized as important in shaping evolution of the brain and cognition in primates, including humans," said Amanda D. Melin, PhD, assistant professor of anthropology in Arts & Sciences and lead author of the study.
"Our work suggests that digging for insects when food was scarce may have contributed to hominid cognitive evolution and set the stage for advanced tool use."

It is mostly comprised of fat, but prefers glucose as energy.
(I think...)
I like my puny brain and I refuse to dine on bugs.
They keep trying to make bug eating healthy.
Do not want.
My first thought...
The Jews who thought certain species of locust were kosher spent too long in the desert too.
Agreed. There are certain advantages to mastering the use of tools. Grilled steaks are ones of them. No mechanical skills...enjoy your bugs.
Well, in ten to a hundred years, globull warming will kill off all bugs except cockroaches, so the few of humans left will need to develop some killer cockroach recipes.
(Wendy’s roaches; Roach King; Dominos roach and cheese; Papa Roach......)
Woodpeckers and anteaters must have huuuuuuuge brains according to this logic.

Don't you know that beef, chicken, pork, and seafood are just for our betters? They think we are not worthy enough to eat anything but insects and live in tiny 10' X 10' rooms they call mini houses.
If eating insects made us smart, they wouldn’t be pushing different stories every few months trying to get people to eat them.
Yeah? So you eat em!
Slimy, yet satisfying.
“The brain and its long spidery neurons are essentially made of fat, but they communicate with each other via proteins that we eat. The hormones and enzymes that cause chemical changes and control all body processes are made of proteins.” -Psychology Today
I’m confused - was it eating the insects or going through”the rigors” of figuring out they were edible and how to find them that supposedly helped?
Something about this bugs me. Thanks ameribbean expat.
The elites want us eating insects and grains while they eat scallops, Wagyu steak, Chilean sea bass, lobter, heritage pork and duck.
Last year a stink bug flew into my soup. Didn’t see it and chewed. Couldn’t figure out the crunch until I swallowed.
That was not very smart.
I will try almost anything. But not bugs.
Stinkbugs are really weird, so ponderous and slow, almost mechanical. I guess that epic odor when they’re crushed has made them pretty nonchalant to the point of stupid about potential predators.
