Troopers said Ronnie Jackson, 67, had failed to lower the truck’s bed after leaving a construction zone.
A dump truck driver was cited for careless driving Wednesday after he failed to lower the bed of his truck and it hit an overpass on Interstate 75 in Gainesville.
Ronnie Jackson, 67, of Lake City, was cited after the accident, which occurred at 12:45 a.m. in the northbound lanes around Mile Marker 385, according to a Florida Highway Patrol media release. The truck overturned and the bed came off after hitting the Southwest 20th Avenue bridge.
Troopers said Jackson had failed to lower the bed after leaving a construction zone. The interstate was closed for about three hours for the traffic investigation, cleanup and road repair.
There was minor damage to the overpass. A Florida Department of Transportation official inspected it, the media release states. “The FDOT deemed the overpass safe for travel.”
He’s not any more.
Or he could have looked at his wing mirrors ...
That is right. There are people well into their 70s driving trucks. Many have no choice and don’t have gold plated pensions like most government employees/bureaucrats do.
Lucky for you if you retire at an early age, but many have to keep working until the day they die.
A very large boom truck hit the overpass in Greenwood cemetery in Brooklyn NY when they forgot to lower the boom before taking off. The boom itself ripped off the bed and the 3 guys in the cab went out thru the windshield. No one killed. Truck destroyed. Overpass has small white mark on the stone exterior.
We have much lower underpasses than that in the NYC area. There are a lot that 10’ 2” or 9’ 8”. There are signs at all the entrances No Trucks, Low Bridge.
Apparently if you watch the video lots of truck drivers either can’t read or can’t do simple math.
