Troopers said Ronnie Jackson, 67, had failed to lower the trucks bed after leaving a construction zone.
A dump truck driver was cited for careless driving Wednesday after he failed to lower the bed of his truck and it hit an overpass on Interstate 75 in Gainesville.
Ronnie Jackson, 67, of Lake City, was cited after the accident, which occurred at 12:45 a.m. in the northbound lanes around Mile Marker 385, according to a Florida Highway Patrol media release. The truck overturned and the bed came off after hitting the Southwest 20th Avenue bridge.
Troopers said Jackson had failed to lower the bed after leaving a construction zone. The interstate was closed for about three hours for the traffic investigation, cleanup and road repair.
There was minor damage to the overpass. A Florida Department of Transportation official inspected it, the media release states. The FDOT deemed the overpass safe for travel.
DANG!
Why is a 67 year old driving a truck?
Age 67.
Probably the last day of his truck driving career.
I bet that’s a terrifying noise and feeling...
.
What was in his blood stream?
I saw the boom of a big hydro-crane hit an overpass once. Truly mind blowing!
The whole rig bropke in pieces, and the overpass had to be rebuilt.
I beg your pardon...
Likely a Clinton voter.
67 isn’t that old. I suspect he needs to drive.
My thought as well. Poor guy must have thought the world was ending...

Maybe he wants to be productive and enjoys working...

As long as you don’t go under it with your truck bed raised....
“Why is a 67 year old driving a truck?”
Because 27 years don’t know how.
Yep, 0bama probably screwed him over.
Who doesn't want capable peeps working? Big mistake though. Probably won't happen again.

There isn’t an upper age limit....
As to why he’s driving ... I don’t know but maybe he wants
to work rather set home during the day.
You would have thought that he would have noticed the truck handling differently with the extra wind resistance and the change in the weight distribution. I’m sure hitting the overpass got his attention.
Ha....i got my CDL with haazmat. And tanker endorsement at age 71 and drove interstate for 3 years without demolish any overpasses
OH!
Gainesville FLORIDA. I-75 doesn’t run thru Gainesville GA.
Hmmm..... sounds like it’s time for FFD For Cause testing.
