'I've lost my business': Mother is forced to CLOSE her coffee shop after her daughter refused to host a 'Coffee with a Cop' evening there calling police 'racist bullies'
The owner of a coffee shop has been forced to shut down her business following backlash over her daughter's anti-police remarks on Facebook.
Kato Mele decided to shutter the White Rose Coffeehouse in Lynn, Massachusetts just a week after the controversy erupted, saying she made the decision 'so I can stop being harassed'.
The uproar started when Mele's 23-year-old daughter Sophie, who works as a manager at the coffeehouse, said on Facebook that the cafe would never host a 'Coffee With A Cop' event and went on to call police racists and bullies in the subsequent discussion thread.
Coffee With A Cop is a nationwide movement to build trust between police departments and the citizens they serve.
'I will gladly host a "meet an ex-con" or "meet the impoverished minority community" event,' Sophie wrote in comments that have since been deleted, but copies of which were obtained by DailyMail.com. 'I'm not going to promote any pro-police event because I'm adamantly anti-police.'
She went on to call cops 'bullies' who uphold an 'inherently violent, oppressive and unjust system'.
The remarks spread quickly across the Internet and sparked a massive backlash, with many who took issue with the anti-police sentiment leaving scathing online reviews for the coffeehouse.
Sophie responded by offering an apology for her remarks on Facebook.
But as the furor grew, her mother Mele fired her from the manager position at the coffee shop.
The online cries for blood continued, however, and Mele penned a heartfelt apology letter published by the local newspaper.

DVS. Death by virtue signaling.
They forgot the city motto:
Lynn Lynn city of sin,
you never go out
the way you came in.
Ha! Just wait for the fur to fly when the daughter files an unemployment claim against her mother, but lists her residence as Mom’s basement.
That thought occurred to me.
Mom probably gave her that position because she couldn’t get hired anywhere else. And this is how she is repaid.
I went through the first page of posts, and no one has mentioned that the very name of the shop indicates Commie leanings. The White Rose was the name of the group of idiot college students in Munich who got themselves killed through stupid and ineffective anti-Nazi protests. They are seen as martyrs by the left.
Chickensoup, sounds like you did an awesome job raising your daughter. My hats off to you.
"Its target demographic is urban and affluent, often on-the-go white-collar professionals looking to take their caffeine fix with them to the office. The company considers its core customers to be educated, with an average age of 42, and average income of $90,000."
I think she didn't understand the coffee shop target market very well.
Also, a 7:00 AM opening time for a coffee shop seems a little late unless your intended target market is crack dealers and prostitutes.
If you want to sell coffee to nearby office workers who want to grab a cup on their way to work, 6:00 AM or 6:30 might be better.
It took longer to sink in, but I noticed she even named her daughter after one of the ringleaders of the Weiße Rose. Generational communists.
She could always go work at a truck stop as a “lot lizard”.
She was forced, by law, to close.
Economic laws cannot be broken without irresistible consequences.
Interesting and enlightening video about the mom’s coffee shop.
I think the mom is more aligned with the daughter’s philosophy than she is letting on. Mom had enough business sense to not publicly publish her “anti” thoughts.
I, personally, would not sit thru a rap song containing vulgar language like the rapper singing in the video. I would leave and not come back. But each to his/her/xi own.
“Latinx” LOL!
English does not have gender assignments to ordinary nouns, except in a few cases...Lion-Lioness, etc.
The Latin (or Romance) Languages (including French, Italian, Romanian, Spanish, Portuguese, and others) assign a GENDER to every noun, even inanimate objects. So “La Salla” (room in Spanish) La Plume (pen in French) la Cuchina (”Kitchen” in Italian) are all FEMININE nouns and have to have all the modifiers and adjective agree with feminine endings.
El Toro (The Bull in Spanish), Le Crayon (the pencil in French) and Il Duce(the Leader, in Italian) are MASCULINE nouns, even if the item in question does not actually have a gender.
Persons who speak these languages are VERY protective of their heritage and would be quite insulted if this foolish little American girl alters their words. A Latino has Machismo, and would be heinously insulted if you took that “O” off and saddled him with an “X”. Likewise, a Latina, who prides herself in her femininity, would probably scratch this little b%tch’s eyeballs out for taking away her “A”!
What a CULTURALLY INSENSITIVE and LINGUISTICALLY Moronic thing to say! hahahahaha
I'm a liberal arts major - classical liberal arts.
Your world would be a very different place without classical liberal arts.
<Also, IMO, it was a pretty dumb idea in the first place. Police — particularly police working in neighborhoods “on the rise” — have better things to do with their time than to sit around drinking coffee and chatting.
I don’t know about neighborhoods “on the rise,” but my university town hosts coffee with a cop monthly. I don’t know how popular it is, but it’s been going on for over a year, so someone must be going to them.
The mom seems to be somewhat of a “SJW” herself.
Crazy daughter may have even been trying to protect her meth faced mom from police scrutiny, was the place being used as a drug front?
I was wondering why something was not adding up in my mind until you just mentioned it. Thanks for connecting the dots in my mind.
