OK, for those of us who are not traders . . . .
When?
And puts on 15,000,000 shares of other companies in the same report. MGMRESORTS trades at something like 6,000,000 shares per day.

It’s a bet that a stock will go down.
Soros wants to profit as MGM stock went down and he needed the stock to go down before his put options expired in order to make money.
Most of the time one buys a stock thinking it will go up in value. A “put” is some sort of way of betting that the stock will go down, and making money when it goes down. Soros bought these back in June iirc - but not that long ago.
I love a good conspiracy, and as I noted before, why not try to make some money while trying to take down a nation. On the other hand, with all of Soros’ investments, I bet he has millions/billions of “puts” in hundreds/thousands of companies.
Heck - I might have some investments in my IRA that could be traced back to “puts” on MGM. (Stock in Magellen Banks, which as part of it’s portfolio includes the puts.)
uh....MGM owns Mandalay Bay....eh?....where the shooter(s) did their damage...uh huh
Mandalay Bay. Mandalay Bay is a 43-story luxury resort and casino on the Las Vegas Strip in Paradise, Nevada. It is owned and operated by MGM Resorts International.
Buying puts and calls you pay a premium to sell or buy (respectively) a stock at a strike price agreed upon for a set time period. 1 contract = 100 shares of stock, so 10 puts would be 1000 shares of stock.
Writing puts and calls you receive a premium to buy or sell a stock at a given price, respectively, for a set upon time period.
In buying an option your at risk money is the premium paid. Conversely in writing and option your at risk money is blue sky for calls, and the price of the stock * 100 * contracts.
They all become valueless after the contract date. For buys, if not exercised you lose what you paid. For writes if not exercised you gain what you sold the option at.
These are complex investment hedges and commissions can eat you alive.
Some plays (mainly writing options) you have to be covered. Either owning the stock or having a % of money at risk and subject to margin calls.

Soros again KNEW like the market crash before Obama.
KNEW as in: CAUSED IT.
And yet, Soros is protected by every allegedly US-agency
that allegedly protects America.
Need some context before this is interesting... Is this unusual for him or does he write puts on this holding often?
Soros has made billions by selling short.
Normally he shorts currencies of countries.

Correct. Buying a put allows the owner of the put to sell a stock at a price that is above the current price (if the stock’s price should fall). In simple terms, if I buy a put with a strike price of $100 and the stock price falls to, say $90, I have the right to sell the stock to the seller of the put for $100, thereby making a profit of roughly $10 a share (minus the fee I paid for the put and commissions).
Alternatively, instead of selling the stock you could sell the (appreciated) put itself at a price above what you paid for it.
This is a little oversimplified, but its basically how you make money with puts.
Options (buying and selling puts and calls) are quite complicated and potentially very risky. But they are also used as a form of portfolio insurance.
The prince in question is one of the most astute businessmen on the planet
Freedom of Speech Wins, good catch. But yes, context is needed in form of a little statistical data gathering.
Soros has a trading floor in Cayman Islands about 90 miles south of Havana, Cuba. Trading floor has dozens of traders linked to other trading floors worldwide.
This may be a usual hedge bet or may be an insider trade. It may be that it has nothing to do with the massacre, but then maybe it does.
It strongly points to an insider trade because the CEO of MGM sold off, without explanation, a lot of his stock or options in the same time frame.
If the put trade was keyed to CEO selloff, then it’s just a bet on that and is perfectly legit.
If the put trade preceded the CEO selloff, then it stinks and could very well be illegal insider trading.
To link it to the massacre requires knowledge that the premeditated massacre was made known to Soros trading or to MGM principals and then to Soros trading.
Normally he shorts currencies of countries.
Common knowledge. My question was about his history with this security. Does he regularly take out puts or was this the only time. If it is unusual trade activity for him, it could point to prior knowledge of the incident.
