A 29-year-old Zürich resident hung the flag of the famous Tennessee-based whiskey on his roof. His neighbors however, thinking it was something else, allegedly accused him of being linked to Islamic extremism.
The neighbor had hung the flag beside another of the Italian tricolore on the roof of his apartment in Regensdorf, Zürich, where he moved into two months ago, according to a report in Swiss daily 20min.ch.
The man said he put up the whiskey flag because he found it funny, but his neighbors somehow didnt share his sense of humor.
Well, both want me dead...
I can see the resemblance — from a distance— if your vision isn’t that great. I have seen cheap flags that have the writing backwards on one side. Maybe this flag is that way and the neighbor mistook that for Arabic.
Ganz verruckt man!
I thought the Swiss always bragged about their train conductors being fluent in three languages, four on a good day. I guess American English is not one of them.
Some neighbor left him a note; “Should we be afraid of you?
Are you an ISIS sympathizer?” He is thinking of suing the neighbor who left that note, for libel.
This man just moved to the area two months ago. They don’t really know him, so it’s probably an honest question.
He should just take the flag down, maybe put it up inside his house. Not worth playing the victim over something like this.
Especially not when many new arrivals to Switzerland REALLY ARE ISIS sympathizers.
This is partly what is wrong with the muslims. They are trained not to enjoy a good whiskey.
And BBQ pork.
If they added these to their diet and switched from little girls and goats to adult women, they might get right with life.
Well, theyre both black with a round thing in the middle but the resemblance ends there.
As someone’s noted here, maybe the people saw the reverse side with the wording & image “bleeding through” the cloth and they thought the backwards lettering was Arabic.
Funny story, at any rate!
My MIL favorited this photo I took yesterday...

Little boys, actually.
And at Brown-Forman HQ the marketing division has their knickers in a bunch over whether their label really looks like an ISIS flag.
Focus groups are being assembled, alternatives being prepared, flag licenses being cancelled...
He should get a bottle of jack and go share it with his neighbor to educate him... I think is a better solution.
Oh my gosh! When I clicked on that picture, I thought it was an old picture of my daughter! The similarity is amazing! (She’s 25, this week)
