What a horrible day - and the news about Tom is just the latest. Hoping he pulls through - the sound of those guitars was part my teenage years.
Apparently so...
There was nothing to love in "The Postman". :) Petty just made it suck a little less. "Hey, aren't you... ?"
“...only Bob Dylan and Jeff Lynne are left...”
Plus they had picked Del Shannon to take Orbison’s place after he died but Del committed suicide before they could produce a record.
You’re right, wow it’s so weird.
The same thing happened with Farah Fawcett and Michael Jackson.
TMZ reporting he died..
Latest update,
“We’re told after Petty got to the hospital he had no brain activity and a decision was made to pull life support.”
RIP sir. What a loss.
I still listen often to those and “Here Comes my Girl”.
Petty is one of my favorites.
Horrible news. One of the greatest American rock bands ever Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers truly underrated. Then again maybe not. I think most people who know music understand how great they were.
Tom Petty's Southern Accents was one of the most underrated albums of all time.
There was also a great bit of trivia about it ...
Songwriter Mike Campbell wrote the music for a song that was originally supposed to be included on that album, but Tom Petty left it off because it didn't seem to fit in with the general tone of the album. So he gave Campbell permission to use it for something else. Campbell took it to a guy -- whose name you right recognize -- named Don Henley, who wrote the lyrics for what turned out to be one of the signature tunes (and videos) of the 1980s:
Amen, my FRiend, amen. Great Southern memories.
Tatt
I thought The Postman was a pretty good try at Lefty Patiotism. By Leftists, for Leftists, courtesy the racket we know as the USPD.
Petty’s a Lefty, but you knew that already.
Just googled
mercury News reports he was placed on life support 8 minutes ago
The next article was Spin News that reports he was removed 6 minutes ago.
The internet...
You had to figure that after placed on life support. Sigh
RIP
“The same thing happened with Farah Fawcett and Michael Jackson.”
And I can remember that week started off with the passing of Ed “Here’s Johnny” McMahon.
My memory can go back to about this time in 1985 when it was Rock Hudson, Yul Brynner, and Johnny Olson within one or a couple of days.
Luv that one!
