Why French expats are unmoved by Macron's appeal to return to France

President Emmanuel Macron has upped his efforts to persuade French expatriates, whether in the UK or the US, to come home, but many French abroad told The Local they think his appeals are meaningless.

During the French president’s trip to the United Nations in New York, he made an appearance in front of hundreds of French citizens who have made a new home for themselves in the US. Standing in front of a huge French tricolore flag, Macron proudly told them France is now “the land of conquest”. This follows an appearance in London prior to his election, where he called on the UK’s French population to return to their country and “innovate, seek, and teach”. […]

But the French president’s efforts to overhaul the country’s image may be too late to appeal to expats in London. Even with Brexit weighing on the minds of many French living in the UK, for many, their worries about Britain’s departure from the EU are outweighed by the opportunities on offer in London. […]

US-based Frenchman Jean-Charles Boghossian, who has lived in New York says moving abroad is a personal decision for expats and they are unlikely to be influenced by a politician’s call to return. “We’re not sheep. Moving to another country is a big decision — and when you do, you plan to stay there for years. Political rhetoric won’t make people question whether they should move home,” said Boghossian.

But the reality is that a speech in New York won’t be enough to convince French abroad that their home country is changing. They will likely need to see hard evidence that Macron’s reforms are working before they get on any Paris-bound plane. …

I know a former French businessman. He said you owe all your taxes for the year before you make any money. The government decides how much you are going to make and when you don’t you pay hell getting a refund. You can’t fire low performing employees. One Friday he locked his five family businesses and immigrated to America. He said, if the government wants money they can run them. I was through.

Sure return and get raped by one of his Muslim buddies! (But rest assured, Muslims are equal opportunity rapists - guy or gal or child, or even a sheep or goat in a sexual emergency, it makes not difference)!!!

There is no gender associated with “those whom their right hands possess” in Surah 33:50, I noticed.

This is what I thought too.

The Mooselimbs have cause so much trouble for the French government why would expats want to live with those Mooselimbs who actually do hate the French but those Mooselimbs sure love living in France.

You forgot little boys ... they are for pleasure. Raping non-mussselmen women is a power thing and any offspring are automatically musselmen (in their eyes).

What about tax rates?

That's close to what I was thinking: "Come back and pay taxes!"

But, the US isn't so clean in this area, because unlike everyone else, we have tax everything a citizen earns worldwide, even if he lives abroad. (There is a decent exemption, but still... in this regard we're worse than France.)

Those dammed Anglo-Saxons with their market economies, rewarding hard work and initiative.

Return to France to experience an economy that restricts working hours, a work force that can't be fired, confiscatory taxes on high incomes( In 2014 when France played Switzerland in the Davis cup all of the players on both teams lived in Switzerland)and an economy that is run by "Enarques" who are superior to the rest of humanity. In the meantime your taxes are used to house and feed an alien population that has neither the skills or inclination to engage in the workforce.

Especially since I haven’t had to use it for some years. Back in the day I could translate and publish in several languages. Oh, well.
