FULL TITLE: Jersey for Army vet Steelers player who chose to stand alone for the national anthem is an instant bestseller -while the coach says he's disappointed 100% of players didn't skip out

The jersey for an obscure NFL player and veteran has shot to the top of the bestseller charts after he went against the rest of his team and stood out, hand on his heart, during the national anthem.

Army veteran and lineman Alejandro Villanueva, who took a tongue lashing from Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin, decided to take part in the pre-game national anthem ceremony on Sunday while the rest of his team remained out of sight in the locker room.

'Like I said, I was looking for 100 per cent participation, we were gonna be respectful of our football team,' Tomlin said following his team's 23-17 loss to the Chicago Bears.

Left tackle Villanueva, who served three tours in Afghanistan as an Army Ranger, stood at the edge of the end zone at Chicago's Soldier Field with his hand over his heart as the Star Spangled Banner was performed.

His teammates, who were surprised by Villanueva's actions, remained either in the locker room or stood near the tunnel out of sight of the crowd.

SOME non-combatants

You are correct, my omission as I was targeting the NFL Mgt and coaches. But yes, plenty of non combatants are painfully aware as you state. Case in point, the Nurses at 93rd evac hospital May 9 1968 as NVA rockets pounded the hospital compound as they feverishly worked to get their patients under beds.

Only place to get news of what’s not reported in the US is to read foreign news sites.

I believe RUSH spoke to Tomlin’s daughter today via phone.
Not only listening to RUSH, but reading FR and writing, tee vee on for DH and I failed to hear the complete conversation. Only the ending after she hung up and Rush thanking her for the call, wrapping it up after call completed. His thread should be posted elsewhere on the site if compelled to read it.

A cowardly creep. If anyone needed a reason to root against the Steelers he gave it to them.

Thousands have been lost in battle. Villanueva could tell of many of his friends lost.
Now I have at least one hero in the NFL.

He spoke with Bill Tobin’s daughter not Tomlin the Traitor.

If it is deemed "acceptable" by the NFL and these Leftist coaches and owners for individual players to protest America by kneeling during the National Anthem or for the entire team not to show up (bunch of cowards) at all, then why is it not acceptable for a player, who is a true patriot, to stand at attention with his hand over his heart?

If your logic is that it is their right and freedom of speech to protest, then the same should be true for someone who is not dissing the flag and National Anthem by following conventional cultural protocol in standing and stunting or holding you hand over you heart.

They are unilaterally favoring the protesting players and targeting and dissing the stand-up guys who are respecting the flag, anthem and country.

The Left has been doing this not-respecting-the-flag crap since Obama started not holding his hand over his heart when he was running for president.

In my youth, the rallying cry was, "Love it or leave it." Same holds true today.

Stunting should be "saluting" in my #28 comments.

Auto-speller is the bane of our existence nowadays.

Thanks for the clarification. Too much for a feeble mind to track today.

Tomlin does more then “look like a real creep.” He’s a filthy, disgusting, race-baiting black millionaire pretending he’s being “oppressed.” Effing enn-word bastard. Get back to Umbugwae or wherever-the-eff you crawled out of, you sick bag of brain-diseased piss.

Tomlin sides with “his people” while Alejandro sides with his country.

Never in combat but acted as a stretcher bearer for the DC-9 Nightengales that were taking the serious wounded from VN to hospitals closest to their home so they could rehabilitate. I was never so saddened or honoured to help them.

An excellent point was just made by mware on another thread.... "If you are going to buy a Villanueva jersey, don’t get the NFL one get his jersey from when he played for ARMY #82. That way the money goes to the NCAA, and if you go to the Army website they get the money." See post 9 at this link…. https://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/3588968/posts

It’s a real shame when a talented coach like Tomlin loses his courage (much less, his mind) by supporting this crap.
