Hello
Ice needs electricity to stay... ice
Glad to hear you’re still out there. The news reports have been apocalyptic, claiming that PR may not have power back for another six months.
But FR loves us some storm porn!
Nothing like it ever happened in the history of the world. The government and MSM know all and wouldn’t lie to us.
I know what you mean.! Been there, done that!......................ICE ICE BABY!................
Good to hear most is okay.
I remember how much we needed ice after hurricane Fredric hit Mobile in 1979.
I hope you get the badly needed ice soon along with electricity and everything else.
bump for follow ups
A few icy drinks go a long way.. Thanks for posting reality. Stay safe... I will share with my husband and friends.
For a while there, they were speaking as if the entire island was gone! Sat on the runway during a refuel.. Beautiful country.
What part are you at? I’ve been to the island many times. we’ve generally stayed at the El San Juan (in case you have any report about how it fared) over the years. Dozen weeks or more.
We are supposed to dock in San Juan in about 3 weeks....think we will?
I think the best bet for President Trump and congress would be to create a “consolidated relief bill” that would take care of four problems at once. Not just Texas and Florida, and not just the Puerto Rican damage, but *also* the PR bankruptcy.
In other words, after disasters, there *can be* a huge improvement in a regional economy due to the surge in reconstruction. But this requires two things: the money to rebuild, and a capable government to mostly get out of the way, and streamline the zoning and rebuilding process.
Background:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Puerto_Rico_government-debt_crisis
“In June 2016, President Barack Obama signed PROMESA into law, which appointed an oversight board with ultimate control over the commonwealth’s budget and debt restructuring. The board extended a moratorium on debt collection lawsuits by creditors until May 1, 2017. Creditors sued as soon as the stay expired, and on May 3, 2017, the Commonwealth sought the quasi-bankruptcy protections provided by the aforementioned law.”
So basically, since this oversight board already exists, President Trump could undertake a huge reconstruction project, to rebuild Puerto Rico from below the ground up. That is, new infrastructure: water, power, communications and sewers; roads and highways; many new buildings, and lots of other stuff.
Unemployment there would about drop to zero, and there would be substantial labor and materials shipped in, commercial development companies could be given serious incentives (much easier because of there being no US income tax there).
The basic concept would be to make PR as prosperous as Hawaii.
The best part is *how little* (relatively speaking) it would cost. With the PR government out of the way for the most part, the timetable would be fast, and the cost would be slashed.
At the end of it all, PR would be reconstructed, out of bankruptcy, a superior business and tourist destination, and quite likely voting Republican for a hundred years.
Of course, conservatives have a natural resistance to spending large amounts of government money. But the truth is that there is so *damned* much waste right now, that not only can slashing a bunch of the waste (which is being done) pay for this several times over, but for once America would get something *useful* out of the deal.
Not ICE, ice. Thanks for the report, and prayers for everyone in PR.
62 feet!
Ask Hillary if she’ll visit for a few months.
(If she does, we’ll send you winter coats. It’d be easier than sending tons of ice.)
Good luck there - hopefully this tragedy will encourage some on humanity’s dark side to begin embracing light.
Our prayers are with you.
Everything we need to know is told us by our government!
Old San Juan has buildings close to 500 years old so I would expect that they have survived their fair share of hurricanes. A friend of mine from the islands once told me that hurricanes there are like the big bad wolf. If your house is made of straw or stick you’re in trouble. If your house is made of brick you should be good.
