The NFL Is Seriously Concerned With Empty Stadiums
MSN ^ | September 13, 2017 | Ryan Phillips

Week 1 of the NFL season had plenty of important stories worth following, but maybe the most entertaining was the mostly empty stadiums in Los Angeles and Santa Clara. Both the Los Angeles Rams and San Francisco 49ers had sparse crowds for their home openers, and that has not gone unnoticed by the NFL.

I also miss the days of watching them play in the mud and snow. Heck thats what we did as kids.

I played high school football and the best game ever was in a snow storm in late November. By the time our game was over the 50 yard line had at least six inches of mud mixed with snow and we couldn't tell who was on which team. We were all covered in mud. By the way, we won.

That’s a TERRIBLE sign for the NFL.

I think the Raiders will get good attendance in Las Vegas - but most of the fans will be flying in to watch the Raiders' opponent. :)

When they play the Chargers in Los Angeles, the stands will be 90% Raiders fans. They are still LA's team.

Empty seats = poorly run teams that have stunk for a long time. The teams that are regularly in contention don’t have a problem, it’s the teams you can write off for the next 4 years that are having issues. And that’s not just a football thing, that’s an any sport thing. The Yankees have been having a hard time filling up lately, too many bad years, making the wild card this year might help, or not. Depends on how quick they exit.

Especially since they chose not to build parking facilities for Levi Stadium, and use existing local business parking lots on Sundays when they are closed. The result is a massive backup after every game as the attendees all leave at once through side streets.

It's the same at Cowboys' Stadium. I went to the Florida-Michigan game there, and there were places charging $200 to park, fortunately I found one business parking lot and paid $40. Never again!

USC has no problems getting 90K per game so I don’t think its the football that’s the problem.

The Rams used to have a lot of fans in Southern Ca., they are mostly gone or moved away.

I would like to think it’s a sign of disgust with Kaepernick, Goodell & Co. But frankly I think it means L.A. is just not that into football.

It’s not just the NFL, the NBA is experiencing the same thing.

The games are on TV, and ticket prices are so high that the common man can’t afford them. Ticket sales are an afterthought when teams get the majority of their revenue from TV contracts.

Burning the flag to rap music at the opening should pack the fans in the stadium-antifa, blmers, lgbtprsq, demonrats, will be buying tickets for $100s over face. ESPN should hire caper nick, sams, Jenner, and other sex fluid people to narrate the game and talk liberal politics. There should be an app that identifies anthem kneelers on every team for every game so that us deplorables can choose which games to watch....

I went to a San Jose Earthquakes game at Levi Stadium before it "officially" opened for its first football season. We were assigned parking lots as a part of the ticket. We didn't have to search out "for fee" parking.

Our assigned parking was on a golf cart path at the nearby public course.

$200 nose bleed seats. $50 food and drinks. Price of travel. Price of hotel. $75 parking http://www.stadiumjourney.com/stadiums/at&t-stadium-s64 . Not to mention the crowds.

Who needs that? Sit home in your comfy recliner under the a/c, pop open a beer and open a bag of chips. Never miss a minute when using your own toilet during commercials. Click the remote to see half a dozen games.

Or ignore the entire season like me.

Yep...

I can't even go see my college (A&M) and take my family without it costing me $500. Of course...with they way they are playing...that's not even a temptation!

There’s more but the game has become a three hour borefest.

Went to a UT Longhorn game a few years ago. The longest day of my life. There were more time outs and standing around than actual play. Dragged out for hours. A total waste of time. No one in the stands were the least bit excited after the first quarter. Don't know which was more bored, me or Bevo. First and last college game for me. There isn't enough money in the world to make me attend an NFL game. Pure torture.

Not a football guy at all, but I read the whole thread with interest.

I’m a nominal baseball fan (my great grandfather played for the Pittsburg Pirates)and I agree that most of the things that are keeping fans from going to games would do the same for me.

Best game I ever saw was a girlfriend’s son playing at the senior-most level of little league. Cost was driving there, a hot dog and a soda for her and I from the concession stand and that was it to watch surprisingly good ball featuring an awesome young man that I still care very much about.
