BERKELEY, Calif. - A University of California, Berkeley, police officer taking the cash out of a hot dog vendor's wallet has caused outrage in the community.

An alum took cellphone video of the campus police officer citing a street food vendor for not having a proper license. The video, taken after Saturday's Cal football game, also shows the officer going through the street vendor's wallet and taking out his cash.

KTVU reports that Cal alum, Martin Flores, asked, "Are you going to take his hard-earned money?"

The officer responds, “Yup.”

Flores then says, "People can drink on campus on football games and no ticket, but a hard-working man, selling hot dogs, earning a living, gets his money taken away and a ticket."

The officers said that the street vendor didn't have the proper permit for selling food.

there are 90 percent honest good cops

BUT they cover up and hide the malfeasance of the totally corrupt 10% and in doing so are complicit in their crimes. So in reality they are accessories after the fact and just as guilty as those doing the blatant crimes.

Yes. There is a problem. No question about it.

Article says University of California Rent-A-Cop.
Definitely not the best or brightest.
Most likely hired for adherence to PC rather than morals then given a very short orientation instead of real training.

"stealing", for those in Rio Linda.

Fake news!

Where’s the Freeper penchant for healthy skepticism of MSM articles, when it’s needed?

The money was seized and logged into evidence. The cop did not pocket the money for himself. The (undocumented citizen) vendor was also an “undocumented vendor” — i.e. selling food without a permit. There are real health issues involved.

This happened to me in San Francisco and I wasn’t even selling anything.

People thinks this only happens in Mexico or maybe the Caribbean and that’s wrong, it happens in the USA, also.

It’s actually very common in any city owned and operated by democrats. LEOs in such places degrade very quickly from law enforcement to criminal thugs.

That’s armed robbery. In a civilized country this criminal with a badge would have been shot down by armed and law abiding citizens.

I can see chasing a vendor off, but robbing him? that’s for a judge to do.

I would never even eat food sold from a vendor in that city.

Find this rent-a-cop in the coffee shop, or wherever, and beat the daylights out of him.

The most likely reason this vendor was arrested is because the University didn’t want him selling hot dogs for half of what they were selling them for in the stadium. As usual, follow the money.

Dear myerson,

I am of the mind that the hotdogs being sold OUTSIDE, were better prepared than the ‘dirty water dogs’ being sold INSIDE.

Now, if the “university” (actually ‘indoctrination center’), had SIGNS posted for ‘no soliciting’, then I might side with the ‘indoctrination center’.

With Snake Sessions aggressive new Federal Asset Forfeiture Guidelines, I wouldn’t be surprised to see this happening soon.

oh good grief, the theft of the man’s money was immoral

There was no “theft” (a criminal act). The cop did confiscate the money and log it into evidence — as (according to other reports) he was told to do, in such cases. You might well oppose the laws that allowed for that to happen — but, the fact remains that the cop’s actions were legal.

BTW, the vendor was selling food without a permit — and that could be a serious public-health issue. Would you prefer zero regulation of food services?
