I better add another disclaimer, so people wont think I'm cruel.

As I said in the beginning, I send my condolences to anyone who has lost a loved in the wake of Hurricane Harvey, and Irma. I also offer my prayers for all who have been effected by Harvey's destruction and those who will be effected by Irma, where ever it may land. I do not mean to discount the suffering many are going through, nor do I want to insult anyone who cares so much for their loved ones that they are evacuating their home for safer ground.

I’m praying that Irma will skirt much of Florida, but we don’t know all the factors that will influence her path.

Yes, the modelers may be giving short shrift to the vertical dimension of the air. Maybe the model that has Irma going well out into the Gulf and lightly brushing the panhandle is the one that is most realistic.

I’d like to see better science attempted in future, science that will model the air vertically as well as horizontally. Perhaps if we but had refined the method, with vertical as well as horizontal measurements of air, we might have been able to say (for example) that hey, Irma is going to head out into the Gulf, so don’t sweat it central and northern Florida, and only prepare for some heavy rain in southern Florida.

I agree that grinding the anthropogenic global warming axe will create blind spots in science that never needed to be there.

I posted 3 days ago that I believed it was going to go westward and into the Gulf of Mexico. Chit chat post got deleted.

Jose hung a sharp right, but that was for different reasons.

For goodness sake, meteorology ought to be an order of magnitude better today than it was a few decades ago.

I agree, but we need to get a computer model that is crated by someone who knows the weather, not the ones indoctrinated with fools knowledge

The model is only as good as those creating it. If they have evil in their hearts and their intentions are to scam the public for their own future gain, or that of Satan’s, ie. The New World Order, then it will be worthless..

That sucks. Have you tried posting it again? Did they give you a reason?

And as for doctrines of global warmism? One of the factors really is the lack of a vertical dimension in temperature and other weather measurements. Watts Up With That has documented things like urban heat island effects... which are measured ON THE GROUND. If it were possible to get a few hundred feet above those sites, we would see different data.

I’d say that even good amateurs could probably do better with this, if they had no axe to grind.

I’m not getting the God part. Are you saying God is in control of the hurricane? Or, because they don’t believe in God they’ll get it wrong?

Maybe we could better put it as a “selfishness” aspect. Lurid news, such as Irma boogieing right up the Florida peninsula and starting as a Cat 5 and only becoming Cat 3 midway up (turns out that Cuba was enough to tone it down to a Cat 3 already) would tend to attract a bias.

Selfishness is the obverse of a God honoring sense, which is coincident with an objective science sense.

< , Congressman Hank Johnson, that Guam could possibly tip over if we station 8,000 more marines there >
Admiral Willard deserved the Congressional Medal of Honor for keeping a straight face during that joke of an inquiry. Hank Johnson should hook up with Sheila Jackson Lee, there's a pair that beats a royal flush.

Your post literally makes no sense to me. Who’s being selfish? Also, it doesn’t answer my question previously posted.

Or maybe I should say, the inverse of it.

Fair question.

Who is being selfish is the people who want to attract eyes to lurid news, rather than trying to be as objective as possible.

Get that down, then we can start to address the God aspect.

I’m pretty sure they are considering the air flows at different altitudes.

I do remember an article saying that the National Weather Service in Omaha, Nebraska was sending extra weather balloons down there for this purpose.

The question I’ve got, though, is whether the models are truly ready to take that extra information into account. Because this degree of scrutiny of atmospheric conditions is not common.

Maybe if Irma does something drastically different than the mainstream projections, the experience with her will be factored into new models.
