For goodness sake, meteorology ought to be an order of magnitude better today than it was a few decades ago.

This one shows the whole continental USA, with Irma at the bottom right. Check the incredible outflow band up the east coast, and the huge low over Nebraska.
With this kind of imagery, one might think anyone could predict the path, as there is effectively a “solid wall” to the west.
