Mysterious green and blue flashes were seen by witnesses in Mexico City after it was rocked by a magnitude 8.2 earthquake.
The powerful quake set off a tsunami warning for at least eight countries – and at least six people have been confirmed dead in the most powerful quake to strike the country for 100 years.
A video of the earthquake lights was captured by a witness – capturing a strange, little-understood phenomenon.

If you go back and read the first-hand historical accounts of the massive New Madrid earthquake and aftershocks (1811 - 1812) you would see many multiple accounts of the exact same phenomenon.

Lightning is commonly generated during seismic events. It is the piezoelectric effect of compressing crystals.
Since it is ground generated rather than sky generated, it probably has some metallic ion content associated with the minerals found in the ground where it emanated. Copper for green, cobalt for blue, calcium for red, iron for orange, sodium for yellow, etc.
They like to do that but the other planets have extremely slight effect on earth’s orbit. For example the gravitational effect on you caused by Jupiter is less than the gravitational effect of your refridgerator while you are standing next to it. It’s the sun and moon that dominate gravitationally.

Not so mysterious. Probably just power line transformers blowing. Seen it many times during heavy wind/rain storms when tree limbs knock down power lines. I suspect an earthquake could cause similar damage when buildings are coming down.

The CHP pilot while growing up spent a lot of time at our house with our sons. So I kid my wife back, and ask her if our CHP pilot is a devil? She just laughs.
