What are they afraid of militant Buddhists?
LIDL AIRBRUSHES CHRISTIAN CROSS FROM CHURCH PICTURED ON ITS GREEK FOOD RANGE BECAUSE THE SUPERMARKET CHAIN DOES NOT WISH TO EXCLUDE ANY RELIGIOUS BELIEFS
By Charlie Bayliss For Mailonline, 4 September 2017:
- The supermarket chain has come under fire for altering its new Eridanous range
- Shoppers say the Anastasis Church had its cross removed from packaging
- Customers have taken to social media to vent their frustration at Lidl
Lidl has defended its decision to airbrush Christian symbols from its packaging, claiming the supermarket wants to remain religiously neutral.
The chains new Greek Eridanous range has pictures of the famous Anastasis Church in Santorini, Greece, with its world-renowned blue dome roof.
Yet some shoppers noticed that the packaging comes without the Christian crosses normally at the top of the dome and nearby buildings.

Evidently they believe freedom of religion really means freedom from religion.
Since it’s not obvious from the article, Lidl is a European grocery chain headquartered in Germany.
I take it that this is a store brand?
Why, then, select that picture?
LIDL is new to the USA with only a few stores, but big plans. Their behavior needs to be corrected now by communication or business killing boycotts.
Well, it’s a store brand - the store has a right to market its own products as it sees fit. It’s rather pathetic and weak that it thinks the best way to do this is to hide symbols of Christianity - no store in an Islamic country would dream of hiding any aspect of Islam to make Christians feel more comfortable.
Stupid thing to do - you’d need a magnifying glass to even see the cross in the first place...but then who inspects every supermarket package out there looking for missing crosses? That’s a bit weird in itself.
Uhhhhhh....you know what? Never mind. Not even worth expending the brain power that I'll never get back.
...and I wonder what ethnic/religious group Lidl has suddenly become concerned about offending?
Actions like this are bringing the world closer to Islamic whitewashing of our society. Censoring Christianity further contributes to the rot of Western Civilization.
I want the word "cheese" to be airbrushed from all cheese packaging. I'm having my lawyer drawing up the necessary demand papers even as I type this.
Oh, and here's why. While eating some cheese, my sister was bitten by a moose. The mere sight of the word "cheese" on packaging sets her off. So the word "cheese" must go.
And by the way, all copies of this cartoon series must be destroyed:
“LIDL is new to the USA with only a few stores, but big plans.”
Their actions, if done in this country in full, are not going to help their big plans. This is a country of religious freedoms they, obviously, do not understand. According to ABC, eighty-three percent of Americans identify themselves as Christians. Most of the rest, 13 percent, have no religion. That leaves just 4 percent as adherents of all non-Christian religions combined Jews, Muslims, Buddhists and a smattering of individual mentions.
When that 83% gets tired of being “put upon,” the kick back will cover a lot more than just a product in a store. But I believe it will cover actions like it. And those “big plans” will turn into big losses..
But this is behind the times. Ramadan support products or services have been displayed for sale or use by a number of companies already in the US. And for it, I will not give them my business. Subway, TGI Fridays, American Airlines, Cisco Systems, Apple, Google, Oracle, and the democratic party leaders to include Hilary Clinton and Bernie Sanders (http://www.arabamericannews.com/2016/06/10/Leaders-and-companies-extend-Ramadan-wishes/).
But this is really a small amount of them. As I find them. I stop supporting the company, person, what they represent, and their sponsors. It is my way of slapping back at religious pandering using political correctness that has been allowed to be determined as religious persecution and religious freedom. Way too many things like it being hammered into Christianity and it’s practitioners.

So I will spit you out of my mouth, because you are only warm and not hot or cold.
Revelation 3:15-16
Rather than spit out their food, just dont buy it.
Lidl is not going to get my business if they keep this...
And they thought the best way to do that was by excluding Christian symbols from a picture of a church?
Greeks remember the time when Greece was under occupation by Turks. Oh, the media never reminds us of that! Once again, symbolically, Greece is being subjugated to Turkey.
Zito i Ellas!
Thanks. It should be there up front, but I can always count on a FReeper to clear it up! ; )
I would be more worried about what God thought about their actions with the airbrush than trying not to offend purchasers of the item. So misguided!
LIDL AND ALDIS was started by two men, who went their separate ways. They divided and became two different stores from my understanding. Aldis creator died a year or so ago in his 90s.
Lidl is now coming to USA in force, like Aldis did. I was tired of people leaving grocery carts in parking lot, and I pay my quarter at Aldis, supply my own bags....it’s great products. I do not buy the meats, as I prefer a butcher based meat department, but seems reasonable.
I shop Aldis and will continue to do so, unless they pull this erase Christian emblem nonsense! I will NOT shop Lidl because of this.
