(Alabama VS FSU Football) Sunday Morning Hangover: Keep Calm and Trust the Saban Process

"It wasn’t perfect, but it was a big win over a good team"

If 24 hours ago, I had told you that Alabama would defeat third-ranked Florida State 24-7, how would you feel? Happy? Thrilled? Relieved? Or maybe somewhere within? Then why don’t you feel that way now? Maybe Nick Saban has spoiled us, the Tide fans. Well, it is time to heed the advice that Saban shared with AJ McCarron a few years ago.

Paraphrasing: “Calm Down”.

Despite the big win over a potential playoff team, some Alabama fans are still wringing their hands and complaining about this and that.

The nature of college football is that players turnover really fast. If you are lucky, you’ll get four seasons out of a guy. In some instances, it’s only two. Yet somehow, Saban has been able to keep his team near or at the top of the college football world for a decade. Texas is ringing up losing seasons on a regular basis. Notre Dame just finished a 4-8 campaign. Mizzou went from back-to-back SEC East titles to dumpster fire in a heartbeat. Meanwhile, Alabama went undefeated only to lose to the greatest Clemson team of all time with the greatest Tiger of all time at quarterback on the last play of the game. If that had happened to any other team, they probably would have thrown a parade - and I am not being sarcastic.

DEFENSE

Alabama lost seven defenders to the NFL Draft but still continues to dominate the line of scrimmage, yielding only 40 yards on the ground. More numbers for you from Saturday night: 3 sacks, 9 tackles for loss, 6 passes defended, two interceptions, and SEVEN points given up.

I'm spoiled, apparently.

The Alabama offensive play reminded me of the losing game against Clemson last year.

- Roll Tide -

It was exactly like Clemson, with one exception, FSU’s quarterback play couldn’t touch Deshaun Watson. Special teams made a lot of big plays. The line was awful. We have great receivers that never get thrown to. Unlike Clemson, the defense got stronger, not weaker.

But 24-7 against a solid team that is very high rated, as opposed to the dishrags most teams played; just enjoy the ride. Roll Tide!

Dominant win.

Florida State is toast for the season after that.

That was a 1 vs 3 matchup. Can’t win every game by 50.

Could be worse, they could be Florida fans.

Seemed to me FL State beat themselves, but denied Bama several TD opportunities.

Good game, but Saban has some tuning yet to do.

Good defenses can make an offense flounder, especially in the first day of the year.

Tide’s defense was dominant and will be tough for Baker Mayfield to whoop their asses.

The only thing uglier than that game was Michigan’s uniforms.

That Alabama defense was ferocious. FSU still loses that game even if their starting QB Deondre Francois wasn’t injured. To me the only weakness for the Tide is their QB play. Jalen Hurts is not that great a signal caller but if the defense plays lights out like last night, and Hurts doesn’t make any big mistakes it looks like another trip to the national championship game for the Tide next January.

I don’t see FSU recovering after that but I’ve been wrong before. The coach has his work cut out after that spanking.

I especially root for any team who plays the Crimson Tide. My heart was ripped out many Sugar Bowls ago.

...some Alabama fans are still wringing their hands and complaining about this and that.

That's normal.

Alabama has more armchair coaches that any other NCAA team.

And they are worth exactly what they get paid.

Nothing.

I'm liking this guy they hired from the Patriots, though.

I can already see some of his influence.

Roll, Tide, Roll!

I'm the same with Notre Dame.

I believe they're called "throwback uniforms"...

...not to be mistaken for "throw-up" uniforms.

The funniest one, IMO, is the hydration chart:

C’mon! First game of the season against a highly-ranked opponent at a neutral site. A pretty dominant second half and a seventeen-point win. Bama will improve each week.

The combined IQ of both teams wouldn’t surpass room temperature, but yes, go team!
