Hollywood is remaking Lord of the Flies, except this time ... wait for it ... the island is full of girls.
The movie will be written and directed by two men, Scott McGehee and David Siegel, most recently known for the critically acclaimed What Maisie Knew. Deadline reported the news Wednesday.
We want to do a very faithful but contemporized adaptation of the book, but our idea was to do it with all girls rather than boys, Siegel told Deadline.
William Golding's classic book was adapted for the screen in 1963 and 1990.

I thought the movie, “Heathers”, was a remake of “Lord of the Flies” (”Lord of the Floozies”). LOL
I’ll say it again: pillow fights.
Let's remake X with an all-black cast! Let's remake Y with an all-female cast! It'll be great!
Opening day bomb.....and Hollywood is like "What happened?"
Can’t happen. They could never settle on who’s in charge and what the plan is.
Kill the pig cut his throat
Mud wrestling
Foxy Boxing.
It’s like “Speed Two”, but in a bus, instead of a boat.
The book is the tale of what happens when boys are left to their own devices. It is a morality tale
Retold in this modern manner is ignorant
Why not title the sequel, “Queen of the Flies?”
Exactly!
I guess we’re sexist to believe boys are different than girls.
I have no doubt they will a bikini mud-wrestling scene, I’m guessing between Kate Hudson and Scarlett Johannsen, you know, just to make it commercially viable.
bet they’ll throw in a mouth-kiss, if not full blown lesbian scene
Please do NOT use the cast of the new Ghostbusters.
remake of a crappy movie made from a crappie book, but with GIRLS!
Wonder if it’ll be as big a hit as the all-female Ghostbusters reboot?
What do you believe would be different about one gender in that situation contrasted with the other gender in that situation?
How do you feel each respective gender would handle the situation differently?
Because boys and girls, especially at that age when they are running on instinct rather than logic and reason, are very different.
Count me in!
Yeah, I laughed out loud at that one. And agreed. Somebody is seriously missing the point here.
A lot of people do. I cannot imagine why this book appears on a high school reading list, which it did for me. I didn't get it at all, but twenty years later I sure as hell did.
Is there a sex-based group behavioral difference? Uh...look at fraternity behavior. Now look at sorority behavior. Yes, there is. And that's where there are rules.
