“To make us celebrate on any other day would be a further injustice,” said Chrissie Castro, vice chairwoman of the Los Angeles City-County Native American Indian Commission.

Councilman Mitch O’Farrell, a member of Oklahoma’s Wyandotte Nation tribe, had pushed for the change, saying Wednesday that the move would provide “restorative justice.” In a blog post prior to the vote earlier this week, O’Farrell said the “historical record is unambiguous in documenting the horrors” Christopher Columbus and his men imposed on the native people in present-day Haiti and the Dominican Republic.

The Y & . Tribe.

One of the better known tribes.

“Sir! The Indians are attacking the fort!”

“Which tribe?”

“The Wyandots, Sir!”

“Them again? Throw out some casino chips and they’ll go away.”

> city lawmakers needed to “dismantle a state-sponsored celebration of genocide indigenous peoples” <

Wait a minute. Indigenous peoples were also attacked by other indigenous peoples. No one has clean hands here.

And for the non-believers, here’s an article about the Indian vs. Indian Crow Creek Massacre. There are many examples like this one in history. Not that it matters to today’s liberals.

“to officially mark the second Monday in October as Indigenous Peoples Day on the city’s calendar “

GREAT IDEA.

I think that Spain and Italy should both use the 2nd monday in October to celebrate Indigenous Peoples Day in their respective homelands. But the Islamist imperialists/colonist hordes aren’t going to like it and neither with the intolerant anti-West Left.

Just because the Indians started out in Massachusetts and ended up defending Santa Monica doesn’t mean they didn’t know how to fight!

Y'all got damn dictators in Haiti and that ain't t'be blamed on Christopher Columbus now is it? Kind of like blaming Jonestown's failed Socialist homofascist love cult experiment on the Kool Aid Corporation. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fran%C3%A7ois_Duvalier François Duvalier (French pronunciation: [fʁɑ̃swa dyvalje]; 14 April 1907 – 21 April 1971), also known as Papa Doc, was the President of Haiti from 1957 to 1971.[3] He was elected president in 1957 on a populist and black nationalist platform and successfully thwarted a coup d’état in 1958. His rule, based on a purged military, a rural militia known as the Tonton Macoute, and the use of cult of personality, resulted in the murder of 30,000 to 60,000 Haitians and the exile of many more.[3] Prior to his rule, Duvalier was a physician by profession. His profession and expertise in the field acquired him the nickname “Papa Doc”. He would run in a unannounced one day election, would "earn" a second term. He took the title of President for Life in 1964, after another faulty election, and remained in power until he died in 1971. He was succeeded by his son, Jean‑Claude, who was nicknamed “Baby Doc”.[4]

Pushed by the LA “Latinos”?

THEY of all people should be celebrating Columbus. Wihtout Columbus you don’t have the Spanish conquerors that followed him in the Western Hemisphere. Without the Spanish, they - people living in and around Mexico City and part of the Aztec/Mextec culture there would not have been north of the Rio Grande.

There were no major Aztec or Mextec settlements more than 200 miles north of Mexico City. The “Mexicans” that came north were first brought north by the Spanish and used to quell opposition from the Native Americans they encountered here.

The European Spanish elite in charge of Mexico became the Mexican elite, and their descendants became the upper classes of Mexico. It is no more a “Native American” society than the U.S. or Canada. BUT Columbus they - “Latinos” - could rightly celebrate. Without him, they’d still be down in Mexico City honoring the Aztec Gods.

Columbus sailed under the flag of Spain. Los Angeles is part of a former Spanish colony and the name is Spanish for The Angels.

As for “indigenous people”, people are not indigenous to North America. The incorrectly called “indigenous people” are more accurately called “first settlers”.

The Los Angeles City Council is inhabited by morons ignorant of history.

Should we change America’s name? Italian explorer Amerigo Vespucci is best known for his namesake: the continents of North and South America.

Due to declining Christendom and low white birth rates

Non white mostly non performing cultures or races are gaining power and will use that power to subjugate us

I’ve never lived in a place that “celebrated” Columbus Day in the first place, so I wouldn’t miss a thing other than banks and government offices not being closed.

Oh, wait, they’re substituting a PC equivalent to keep their precious day off.

Dang.

When I read a story like this I remember the first US army explorers in California who found the local Indigenous peoples preparing food for winter. Dried pulverized earthworms. Perhaps the city of LA can prepare a great feast of Indian foods from that time!

Some say earthworms are not native to the USA but they are.

http://www.smithsonianmag.com/smithsonian-institution/earthworm-native-united-states-more-questions-from-readers-180958094/

I’ve read that the earthworm is not indigenous to the United States. Is that true?

“No. Earthworms are native to the United States, says Melissa McCormick, ecologist at the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center, but the earthworms in some northern parts of the country (including Vermont) aren’t indigenous....”

Other yummies the Indians loved...Page 55
