If Trump is the Republican id, this exchange between Laura Ingraham and Krauthammer is a dialogue between the ego and superego. Ingraham, a nationalist, is all about the agenda. Was Trump’s presser today a good thing? Well, she says, he made some solid points — but it wasn’t useful. It didn’t advance the ball on policy. Krauthammer, a conservative, isn’t interested in that right now. Was it moral, he asks? Was it right?
I wonder how many variations of this exchange are playing out within the administration tonight. Watch this quickie clip of Chuck Todd speculating that John Kelly’s going to end up having to talk people out of quitting over today’s spectacle. Um, I doubt it. Since when do Republicans balk at anything Trump does?

Kelly himself is reportedly not a happy man this evening:
Uh-oh a source tells @SaraMurray new White House Chief of Staff John Kelly is very frustrated with how today played out.

He looked every inch of it standing off to Trump’s side during today’s presser.
Oh — this guy was unhappy too. I know, I know: He’s a cuck.
No, not the same. One side is racist, bigoted, Nazi. The other opposes racism and bigotry. Morally different universes.

Somehow the back and forth between Ingraham and Krauthammer ends with them debating whether Trump’s statement yesterday, in which he denounced white nationalists after hedging on Saturday, reflects what’s actually in his heart or not. If you don’t believe the reporting on that, just watch the guy talk. When Trump is reading from a script, it’s abundantly clear. He speaks more slowly and his sentences are conspicuously more measured than when he’s rat-a-tat riffing on his thoughts, as he obviously was today. What happened the past few days isn’t complicated. He softballed his comments about the alt-right on Saturday, was cajoled by his aides into saying something more emphatic about them yesterday, then resented the fact that he’d been pressured into clarifying his remarks and decided to double down on the “both sides” point today off the cuff. Yesterday’s statement almost amounted to an apology for Saturday’s comments, and you know how Trump feels about apologies. Today he un-apologized.
I think you are right about the statues being a distraction but there was an article in the last week that really opened my eyes. Briefly, the author started off with the observation we always hear, “Why do they (the street activists) do that? Surely they know that behavior doesn’t win people over, doesn’t change minds.”
Of course they know that but that isn’t why they do it. It is their way of showing the world and especially their opposition just who has the power. It is spiking in the end zone. It is the Victory Lap. It is telling anyone who might have the audacity to stand up to them that they will get their ass kicked, their skull fracture if they are lucky and possibly even murdered with absolute impunity because the police and government are behind them.
This is exactly what I have been trying to point out, why I have been explaining it is so important that they be stopped. I have reached a few people but most just don’t get it.

Can’t watch most of FNC anymore, and after what I just saw and heard on FBN, I can’t even stomach Trish Regan.

If you are talking about violence at antifa rallies, there have been counter rallies by right wing groups prepared to defend themselves. They have kicked antifa azz on several occasions. Look for videos on the battle of Berkeley.
And that has just escalated the violence. Kind of reaffirms my point I would say. I have been pointing out that on Friday night when Antigua was outnumbered about 5 to 1 there was no violence. A little name calling and they put their tail between there legs and slicked out. Which is why I say it is important to greet them each time out in massively superior numbers. That will end the violence.
(Of course the people opposing them have to get the FreeRepublic Offical Seal of Approval. We are working on a screening process so that only the ideologically pure can participate. In this way we can be certain the BSM won’t call us racist Nazis.)
“And that has just escalated the violence.”
Disagree. If anything antifa toned down the violence once they realized they were no longer up against defenseless people. There haven’t been more any clashes until VA.
We’ll see. I hear they have another shindig in Boston soon. My prediction is there will be deaths. They have a martyr to avenge.
Very cool! Time for Molly to become a star.
Now the question is, is Mitt on their Payroll, or is he just piling on Trump because he is jealous?
I listened to the presser. Trump did great. Krauthammer is delusional. Screw the alt-left and their minions. Attack them mercilessly.
