Eighteen Pittsburgh SWAT officers were sickened by suspected fentanyl while assisting federal officials on a series of raids in the West End of the city Wednesday morning, authorities said.
Residents awoke to a large law enforcement presence as Pittsburgh and Pennsylvania State police assisted Immigrations and Customs Enforcement, Homeland Security investigators and U.S. Postal Inspectors with serving search warrants and making arrests at three separate locations in Elliott, said U.S. Attorney's Office spokeswoman Margaret Philbin. ICE was the lead agency on the raids at two houses on Lakewood Street and one on Bond Street as part of an ongoing drug investigation, according to a statement from Acting U.S. Attorney Soo C. Song.

PING
Fentanyl is very powerful.
Maybe it’s time to ask pharmacists to add some particular color or scent to this compound.
The gas you use to light your stove is artificially scented for safety reasons.
Hope they are ok. .
You don’t take an 18 man SWAT team unless you are expecting some serious resistance.

Good idea.
Just read an article, recently, about an Uber driver that was transporting this cr@p in his Uber vehicle. Sick.
Yeah, well I guaranty you that the suspects here were NOT Steelers fans.
Since these seem to have been ICE raids, these illegals were just distributing the fentanyl that our own people refuse to do. Glad to see that PA is on board with assisting/cooperating with ICE.
Prayers for the officers to fully recover.
I was thinking the same thing.
A bit surprising as Pittsburgh’s Mayor, Bill Peduto, is all-in on whacked-out Lefty causes.

No it’s not. That’s what they want you to believe, but the real reason they add a sulfur compound is so that in the event of small pipeline leaks they can watch for buzzards and vultures circling above the site of the leak thinking that it is decaying food. Finding a leak in a miles long pipeline is really difficult without looking for these carrion eating birds.
And Peduto had declared Pittsburgh a "Sanctuary City" -- I guess ICE and the police had warrants for this lot.
Not that a real threat from illegal immigrants is enough to overcome the mental illness that is liberalism.
Peduto had actually asked Obama to send him MORE Syrian refugees! That is all about pumping the raw number of “persons” up for the next Census.
“Fentanyl is very powerful.”
indeed. and the many synthetic analogs of Fentanyl that are currently flooding the market are at least an order of magnitude MORE powerful. it’s likely that it was a Fentanyl-like compound that sickened the officers.
the really bad thing that’s going on with pretty much all street drugs right now is that their names no longer indicate their actual ingredients. Ecstasy, for example, rarely even contains MDMA anymore, and if contains any at all, it’s only a small amount.
That I did not know. Buzzards, you say?
Oh well, Carry-On!
Evil stuff.
I thought cops were exaggerating the danger of fentenyl exposure. They weren’t. This confirms just how volatile and dangerous it is. Holy smokes. Why would anybody put this crap out on the street in any form?
Are you sure an 18 man swat team is only for serious resistance? SWAT teams seem to employ overwhelming force no matter the situation. They seem to bring an army wherever they go. They will bring a dozen guys just to serve a warrant.
Well, I guess there is the opportunity for overtime...
The fentanyl comes from China . Good luck.
