Bored at work? Find yourself staring into space? NASA may have the job for you. It comes with a six-figure salary and civil service protection and duties include saving the Earth.
It sounds like a job from the movie Men in Black about government employees saving the Earth from creepy aliens.
Cassie Conley is NASAs planetary protection officer, and that is sort of what she does, but on a smaller scale, and not quite as messy. The job is defending Earth from aliens, but theyre microbes, not space invaders, she told CBS News.
We asked if bringing rocks back from Mars would lead to some sort of evil microbe destroying life on Earth. Preventing that is the whole point of this job, because we dont know, she said.
After 11 years, shes decided to move on, and when NASA posted the job opening, it went viral comparing her to Hollywoods long history of alien invasion heroes.

“The Last Starfighter” - movie. Corny but interesting.
Damned. I’ve never seen that picture of Maxine Waters, super-red lips and all.
no pressure or anything.
IMO the job requirements for someone whose job is to protect us from alien microbes should look something like:
Ph.D. in Microbiology
Expertise in microbial detection, biochemistry, genetics and physiology.
Experience in a wide variety of decontamination/sterilization methods.
Extensive knowledge of microbial pathogenesis and epidemiology.
The actual job requirements are:
A. Degree: physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics.
or
B. Combination of education and experience - education equivalent to one of the majors shown in A above
that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree, preferably an advanced degree in engineering, physical science, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, or electronics.
WTF??
Another politicized government job. And of course, for anyone but a non-liberal white male.
To paraphrase Carlin: “Well, if crimefighters fight crime and firefighters fight fire, what do starfighters fight?”
I don’t know what the job pays, but it aught to be at least a quintillion dollars!!
