LEQUIRE, Okla. -- One Oklahoma resident is getting much praise after she killed several copperhead snakes by herself.
On Friday, Susan Thompson was visiting her neighbor, Mrs. Newby, when she discovered that the 72-year-old had taken care of 11 copperhead snakes that she found under her home in Lequire, Oklahoma.
Thompson said Newby had used a shotgun, a shovel and a rake to get rid of the snakes.
She posted a photo to her Facebook page with the caption, "Mrs Newby killed 11 copperheads last night at her house! She's a snake killer if you need help call her! She is 72 years old!"
Facebook users were full of praise for Thompson's neighbor. One woman even commented, "I love Mrs. Newby. Does she need more shells?"

I live in Greenville South Carolina and we have many copperheads here. They can be quite aggressive
Now we wait for the animal rights group to come crawling out of the ground in protest.
Every one I have dealt with over a period of 50 years or so was killed by me because it was aggressive.
To my knowledge, it is the only aggressive venomous land snake in the US.
Cotton mouths (Moccasins) will bite within proximity, but I've never seen one actually advance on a human like I have observed in a Copperhead.
Rattler usually, but not always announce their presence and will do everything they can to retreat unless you block them or they feel cornered.
I generally appreciate snakes, but I will kill every damned Copperhead I come up on.
No mercy for the evil damned things from me.
Seriously good Eatin’
Been there... and the wanting to kill ALL snakes is an implanted Biblical thing. :)
I’ll have to check out the Snake Guardz. Great to slip on, over boots.
We’ve used Snake Be Gone with good success against Copperheads and coral snakes (in SE TX) and rattlers (at family place in Central TX).
Thank you.
Happened to my family once. Plain ol’ corn snake though, not poisonous..............BUT, people seem to forget, just because a snake is not poisonous does not mean it will not bite you.........................
But they are very venomous and deadly.
I’ve killed a dozen or so. The just sit there waiting to be killed. The don’t move or attack at all.
Guess we know what the grandkids are getting for Christmas. Hint: Snake skin belts.
It’s a Biblical thing...
Mynd you, moose bites Kan be pretti nasti...
“72-year-old woman kills 11 copperhead snakes with shotgun, shovel, rake
Was she low on shells?”
In Texas, I’d have been sure of this.
My great-grandmother used to kill rattlers with just a garden how. Awesome!
When I was about 9 or so in north Mississippi, I remember playing at my grandfather’s house, above grade, where one end of the house was unfinished. There was a hole in the floor where a fireplace would be built eventually.
Batman was big on TV at the time and I was playing Batman. The hole was the secret entrance to my bat cave.
I took some boards and made a ramp to slide down to the ground or climb up from the ground.
At the bottom, there were an old wood stove flue pipe just laying around.
Sliding down the ramp, I kicked the pipe, expecting it to fly out from under the house, but it did not.
I then dared to look into the end of the pipe and came face to face with a huge copperhead!
I screamed and grandpa came running. As soon as he saw what it was he got the shovel and started pounding on the old pipe. The snake was coiled up so tight it would not fall out of the pipe.
He eventually had to be forced out and grandpa killed it with the shovel................
“Weve used Snake Be Gone...”
Defensive gardening................
I’m guessing she shot under her house and then used the shovel and rake to pull them out? If that were the approach I hope there weren’t any pipes/wires in the vicinity.
I've killed over 8 of them in the last 6 weeks in the yard or in the flower beds surrounding the house. I killed one that was lying on the backdoor stoop where we and the pets go in and out of the house all the time. Scared the sh*t out of me when I almost step on it and it lunged at my bare ankles.
I walk down the highway shoulder in the mornings to the nearest truck stop and back. At last count, I have seen over 2 dozen dead cottonmouths and copperheads squished on the side of the road.
Not all snakes are just snakes. The deadly, venomous ones needs to by killed anywhere around humans or animals. I had a 9-day old bull calf killed by a cottonmouth two years ago.
People who live in areas where these snakes abound, are right to kill them.
