Nashville mayor's son dies of apparent overdose
ABC News ^ | July 30, 2017 | Morgan Winsor

Nashville Mayor Megan Barry said Sunday that her only child, 22-year-old Max Barry, has died of an apparent drug overdose.

An emotional statement released by the mayor and her husband, Bruce Barry, said their son died in Denver on Saturday night.

"Early this morning, we received news that no parents should ever have to hear. Our son Max suffered from an overdose and passed away. We cannot begin to describe the pain and heartbreak that comes with losing our only child. Our son was a kind soul full of life and love for his family and friends," the statement said. "Our family would greatly appreciate your thoughts and prayers, and would respectfully ask for privacy as we mourn the loss of our child and begin to understand a world without his laughter and love in our lives."

Max Barry graduated in June from the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Washington. It is unclear what exactly he overdosed on.

Funeral arrangements were pending as of Sunday and will be announced once plans are made, the mayor's office said.

With her husband and son by her side, Megan Barry was sworn in as Nashville's first female mayor in September 2015.

Denver Police Department spokeswoman Raquel Lopez declined to search the department's records and logs for the police report of Barry's death when asked by The Associated Press, saying that would violate the department's policy of not identifying victims.

Freepers love scolding more than anything

It’s their life

That’s sad too actually

She failed. She has no right to tell me how to live my life.

There was more supply and a bigger market and more and better drugs in the 70s in my day than now

This is media hype

And a bigger market of kids

What makes it more dangerous is how the drugs are taken, in pill form.

To do heroin in the 70s, you had to “shoot up”, it was much more conspicuous than it is now.

My husband was a VietNam combat vet. He got started on heroin in VN and continued when he got back to the States. When I met him, he was off of it, but sadly, over the years he would go back and forth - clean for a few years, a year or so using drugs, than back to being clean.

He died from heroin - technically not an overdose - he had been clean and when he picked up again at his usual dose; it was too much. I know because I went and sat in the ME’s office after I got the autopsy report.

My husband did not kill himself. He had an addiction which was fed by the VA itself when he couldn’t get heroin or delaudid. I tried to get help for him from the VA over and over again, but was told it wasn’t my problem, just the vet’s. The VA gave him the substitute drugs that he wanted by the bottle.

When he died, our son, a Freeper, was just a young teen. My husband and I were looking forward maybe to my getting pregnant again and having a 2nd chance at married life. He did not commit suicide, no matter what you want to think about those who die from overdoses.

I can assure you, we are dealing with it, even 20+ years after the event.

She didn’t fail,her son did.

We had a family in our neighborhood who’s son fell apart because of drugs——they had NINE other kids who did okay. Do you consider those parents failures also?

She had one kid and lost him to drugs.
She as a liberal tells me that she knows better than I and I should listen to her. See she has experience, she lost her only son to drugs. Well I had three daughters, no drugs.

Junkies know that they could be taking a potentially lethal dose. They want to do it more than they want to live. It’s truly a type of Russian Roulette.

But then, almost all of us have done the same type of thing. I saw a guy on a motorcycle do it today.

“She had one kid and lost him to drugs.”

And that has NOTHING to do with her public life,it’s just very, very sad.

It could happen to any family.

Can you provide time and place of this bombing?

Any evidence?

Then tell her to keep her liberal nose of my life, out of my business. She doesn’t have the ANSWER. Liberals like her keep out of my life you don’t have the answer.

This article refers to lab raided, but not how. My original source was Investors Business Daily in 2006. At that time this epedemic started with someone I knew so I follewd it closely with local authorities as well.
