FULL TITLE: Heartbreaking reason man with cerebral palsy is sharing footage of himself crawling to his car before work
Patrick Stubblefield is sharing the footage of him climbing into his vehicle to raise awareness about accessibility for wheelchair users
A 30-year-old man with cerebral palsy is sharing footage of himself crawling to his car to go to work for a heartbreaking reason.
In the footage, Patrick Stubblefield, can be seen climbing into his vehicle after apparently using his arms to clamber down steps outside his home.
He is bravely sharing the clip to raise awareness about accessibility for wheelchair users.
The university worker's disability affects his body movement and muscle coordination, which is why getting into his car every morning is such a challenge.
Around two weeks ago, he says he was forced to undergo surgery after developing an infection on his knee from crawling in the street.

BTW this made international news but know where it is, in Huntington, WV.
He needs to find a way to move to a more suitable home with no steps, or purchase a stair stepper powerchair or an outdoor elevator or a lift or trolly system. All are expensive. Also, a van with a lift or a transfer seat for his car that comes out to get you. Hopefully, he has a good job because he’ll probably have to go into debt to get it done. Been there, done that.
Why hasn’t the wonderful socialized heath care in the UK provided the man with leg braces?
I have known a few people CP who are able to used leg braces and a cane to get around. One guy I knew had to use two leg braces and and two elbow crutches. The other guy just needed one brace for one leg running from his shin to his ankle.
so why hasn’t the wonderful UK single payer system provided someone who obviously needs help....
Oh crap, I skimmed the first part missed where is said it was in WV.
Looking further I noticed this:
[ He added: “Housing is limited and landlords are afraid to rent to people with disabilities. ]
Sounds like another situation where lawyers are ruining things...
“Why hasnt the wonderful socialized heath care in the UK provided the man with leg braces”

Uuum,because he’s in the USA.
.
He can request a ramp for wheelchair access. The landlord can install a temporary and the can even do a curb cut. ADA requires it for those who ask.
That's no excuse!
“and landlords are afraid to rent to people with disabilities”
Isn’t that in violation of law?
Title IIIpublic accommodations (and commercial facilities)[edit]
See 42 U.S.C. §§ 1218112189.
The ADA sets standards for construction of accessible public facilities. Shown is a sign indicating an accessible fishing platform at Drano Lake, Washington.
Under Title III, no individual may be discriminated against on the basis of disability with regards to the full and equal enjoyment of the goods, services, facilities, or accommodations of any place of public accommodation by any person who owns, leases, or operates a place of public accommodation. Public accommodations include most places of lodging (such as inns and hotels), recreation, transportation, education, and dining, along with stores, care providers, and places of public displays.
Under Title III of the ADA, all new construction (construction, modification or alterations) after the effective date of the ADA (approximately July 1992) must be fully compliant with the Americans With Disabilities Act Accessibility Guidelines (ADAAG)[11] found in the Code of Federal Regulations at 28 C.F.R., Part 36, Appendix A.

And if I had to be on my knees on a daily basis it wouldnt take me long to find knee pads. I doubt I would have even one knee infection.
Instead it looks like they are pushing for a government fix it all plan that is going to make everyone's life harder to fix a tiny minoritys problem.
No, it doesn't. The landlord *might* have to allow the tenant to install a ramp at his own expense, depending on the facts.
The key phrase there being ‘new construction’.
A landlord should work closely with lawyers who know ADA law on any renovation to make sure that it stays below the threshold that would trigger ADA compliance unless the market is such that the additional costs to bring it into compliance can be recovered.
Side note: Multifamily properties may also be covered by HUD regulations (4+ dwelling units). And, of course, liberal states are likely to have their own, stricter rules.
I can't imagine someone like that not getting enough money to build a ramp for him. I'd contribute. Heck, I'm not the most "handy" guy in the world when it comes to carpentry however I can get in my SUV, drive to where he is and help buy the lumber, swing a hammer and drive some nails in the right place if told what to do.
He should just move to the UK or Canada where the death panels can passively euthanize him.
Sorry but the Charlie Gard situation has me in one hell of a mood today.
Good thing he doesnt live in England, being imperfect would be a death sentence for him by now.
I know a guy doing construction that had to build a wheelchair ramp up to the stripper stage because of the ADA.
Gosh, around these parts all it would take is a story on local TV and someone would build a ramp or something. Surely in WV the same would be true if word got out.
