I just wanted to let the community know that my Dad past away last night at 95 years . He was an American hero, a World War II B17 pilot with the 8th Air Force 379th Bomb Group out of Kimbolton Airfield England. He flew 25 missions and returned to be an B29 flight instructor at Roswell New Mexico. He became a petroleum engineer after graduating from OU and travelled the world with his family drilling wells for Mobil Oil and providing energy for all of us. BTW, I asked him about the Roswell incident , he was there at the time, and he said he didn't know anything about it and never heard a word. So there you go.
Please accept my condolences and prayers. May God strengthen you all.
My condolences to you & your family.
Your Dad might have flown my Dad over the Hump.
Condolences.
They we all magnificent and heroes.
Knew what the U.S. was about and took no crap from anybody.
Builders, joiners and family men.
We’ll never see their like again.
So your pop was in on the conspiracy ?
Hats off to your father. We lost another hero.
You have my deepest condolences on the loss of your dad. He sounds like he was quite a guy.
That generation was brave and could be fierce warriors.
The one thing which struck me in reading some of their history was just how capable they were. I don’t think some of the things they did could be accomplished today.
From what documentaries I have seen, those missions in B-17s over Europe required unbelievable bravery and sheer guts. Unimaginable, I don’t care how many movies you’ve seen.
95 years is a very long life; my Mom died at 94 and my Dad at 97. They’ve pretty much run out of good days by then and I had no doubt then and do not now that it is for the best.
So sorry for your loss. My dad was a B-24 pilot, shot down and then a POW in Germany for the last year of the war. Dad’s been gone 21 years now. They really were the Greatest Generation......
I’m sorry to hear of your father’s passing. He’s a hero in my eyes too. Bless him, and your family.
Condolences for your loss.
Thank you for his service to our country and the free world.
It is gresat you had the time and interest to talk with your dad. Mine passed away 17 years ago, and I still regret never really sitting down with him to get him to reminisce.
I joined the Marines largely out thinking about his being a navy Corpsman on multiple island invasions.
Too late now, but I sure think and regret. Glad you got to talk to your dad. 95 is a proud age to live to, we should all be so blessed.
God bless him and his family. He sounds like a great one.
He becomes part of history now but his kids are his enduring legacy.
My sympathies.
“...and never heard a word”
Interesting - as obviously he must have heard about it. (It was in the papers).
I read something about them refitting an old missile silo nearby for disaster management (this was pre Y2K). I asked a friend that is a park ranger that included that area.
“A missle silo? Never heard of any silos up there.”
This park ranger knew EVERYTHING about our area. All the back roads, the old hot springs. He was ex-military, etc. But he somehow didn’t know about the missile silo that was in the newspaper!
Of course it was probably just standard “don’t discuss it” - regardless if it was aliens (or Y2K).
A life well lived. Thank him for us, he listens to you.
We’re a free country in large part of men such your Dad. God bless him, and you and your family in his loss.
I am sorry for your loss.A life well lived to be sure.
I lived at Roswell back in 1959-1960, and later stationed at Walker AFB in 1966-67 when the base closed. Never heard anything about flying saucers.
Condolences for the loss of your hero and dad and our hero as well.
