How does Obamacare treat an 80 year old w/brain cancer?

Fellow FREEPers, I am NOT trying to be morbid or tactless, but given the recent development with Senator McCain, I want to RESPECTFULLY ask the question.

We recall how, on national TV, Obama told a woman whose mother had a terminal condition that might be treated she would probably get a painkiller:

http://hotair.com/archives/2009/07/21/video-let-them-eat-painkillers/

So, with this fresh sad case in mind, does any enterprising REAL NEWS people to find out how OBAMACARE treats someone with Senator McCain's sickness.

For McCain it doesn’t matter because Congress was exempt from Obamacare...

They would be denied water and food as is done in England where they kill over 130,000 people a year due to ‘free’ healthcare.

For us Peons, two words:

DEATH PANELS

I believe the Phoenix VA was one of the WORST in the Country. He should be made to go THERE. My guess we'd witness overnight improvement.

Obamacare is not an insurance policy. It is the set of rules and regulations that govern the provision of insurance policies and medical care.

thanks! 7 percent ever served.

But, from the NYT: (2011) “At any given time in the past decade, less than 1 percent of the American population has been on active military duty, compared with 9 percent of Americans who were in uniform in World War II. As a result, there is a growing generation gap, with younger Americans far less likely than older ones to have a family member who served.”

Active duty is a YUGELY small %. In my family, Revolution, Civil, Spanish-American, WWII, Korea, VN, Iraq.... And probably some I can’t account for. Oldest grand-daughter is still in the FL Nat Guard.

I have an 80 something year old friend who experienced a tear in his rotator cuff on his right arm (he is right-handed so this is debilitating as to his ability to do lots of things he had been doing to car for his home, i. e. mow his yard and run his electric snow blower) and his Medicare doctor told he and his wife that "surgery wasn't warranted 'at his age' and he would just have to 'live with it.'"

They do have his railroad retirement but maybe not insurance by this time.

Simply outrageous but they sold their home and moved into a senior living apartment complexes!

If he is service connected VA will cover the medical problem. Just choose not to report assets.

The real question that you are highlighting is this:

1. Is Congress treated as “Elite” in healthcare as part of their perks and privileges?

2. Can a “regular” American have the expectation to be untreated/differently (lower quality/higher mortality) treated for a condition such as McCain’s

I think we all know the answer to the above.

What should be done about it?

It is clear that there is one tier of healthcare for government.

There is another tier of healthcare for the people that pay for everyone’s healthcare.

I’m all for being allowed to get what you pay for in life, including healthcare.

But you gotta pay for it.

Sadly the very ancient Senator really won’t recover at his age. He should go home, put his affairs in order, enjoy his family and pray for forgiveness.

LOL! Yeah, I didn’t feel like letting them know mine but the IRS ratted me out. I’m teetering on the edge so I gotta go make a case again.

Patients with both Medicaid and Medicare are treated better than those with just Medicare. Medicaid picks up what Medicare doesn’t cover, as well as the premiums deductibles, and some co-pays, as well as a prescription drug plan.

There ARE limits on some procedures and labs, and there are hoops to jump through depending on the health problems and the procedures needed to fix said problems.

There are things which aren’t covered such as dentures or in some cases glasses, or hearing aids. Even necessities for comfortable prosthesis use such as paddings on weight bearing stumps are limited to type and quantity as well as quality.

Mileage varies from state to state. For example, in some states you can get a better pair of glasses frames if you pay the difference while other states say that of you can pay the difference, then you don’t need Medicaid.

In some states it’s damn near impossible to get medicaid assistance even on a sub poverty income. If you need a nursing home, forget it unless you are unconscious and dying..such as Tennessee. Shame on that state.

Those of you who think people on assistance are hiding wealth in offshore accounts haven’t got a clue.

Scammers exist, but it’s rare.

OMG!

I can't imagine how you must feel having to defend your wife from those entrusted to care for her.

Let us know when to donate to your legal defense fund.

I don't begrudge McCain treatment options for his cancer - I also don't resent average Americans who want similar care... Congress is debating 'InsuranceCare' ... what we should be looking at is 'healthcare'...

Lord McCain needs to resign immediately and get whatever options available to him. The leader of ISIS needs to take care of his personal life and let some one who will fullfill his/her oath of office, do just that. I have NO obligations to this man who has betrayed his oath of office ever since he took it. Whatever happens to him, is really no concern of mine. He has done enough damage to US , supposedly with a healthy brain. I do believe these lords and ladies of Congress should be required to live by the laws they enact.

Regardless of what I think about the lack of character this jerk-wad has demonstrated over the course of his life... God's will, will be done, if that means healing for lord McCain then so be it.

Probably just trying to hasten that person’s death. That’s what the architects of the program (including 0bama himself) would want.
