Update for W10 Version 1607 for x64-based (KB4025339) Removed wi-fi adapter from my devices.

I woke up this morning without wifi. I noticed that this update was installed.

I couldn't find my adapter in the Devices list. The wifi adapter is: Realtek RTL8723BE 802.11 bgn Wi-Fi Adapter.

It replaced it with a bunch of other WAN adapters which won't work.

I removed the update and now I have wifi again. However, this update is downloading again and I'm not interested in going through this every time the update runs.

How can I block this update until this issue is resolved?

I have an HP Pavilion laptop.

I created a post on Microsoft's website:

https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-update-winpc/update-for-windows-10-version-1607-for-x64-based/7d1c5e21-da8c-4573-9470-34a006879dd3

I really don't want to hear about linux or Mac. It's not helpful and it only reveals the snarkiness of the person posting.

Pardon jumping onto your topic.

It would appear that after a previous update of Window my wifi signal strength (”internet access”) at times was fluctuating from normal to nothing. (Signal strength represented by the symbol at bottom right of the screen , appears like a top left one-fourth of Concentric circles). There was a new update yesterday, I hope that my issue was fixed.

IIRC, the user has absolutely no control over updates in Wondows 10.

Typically in Windows 10 you cannot turn off updates, that being stated you CAN modify your wifi connection to indicate that you are on a metered connection then only the ‘most important’ updates will be downloaded.

Are you running a Professional version of W10 (Professional, Enterprise or Education)? You CAN turn off updates on those, though most folks do not have a Professional version of W10.

Good luck!

Microsoft also killed a bunch of Webcam's with the Creators update too. Mine included.

Bastards!

No snark. Run Widoze in a VM under Linux. It actually runs faster. Hard to believe but it is true. I develop for Doze. I run my development environment in a VM under Linux. My compiles are 30% faster. There is a bit of a learning curve running Linux, but some builds are very Windows user friendly. I actually run this particular machine from an external drive. Try doing that with Windows. You can’t.

“Run Widoze in a VM under Linux.”

There are some programs, a couple of games and something else (Forgotten what) that I encountered using a setup like that which would not work. I’d get an error message “This application cannot execute in a virtual machine”

Thanks for that info. I know that I can’t stop updates but I’m trying to find an update for the driver of the adapter.

It’s a Realtek RTL8723BE 802.11 bgn Wi-Fi Adapter.

I can’t find anything for it. There are some generic drive sites that claim they have the drive but I don’t want to download their downloader just to get it. I checked Realtek’s site and they have drivers listed under that search result but the models don’t match in the list.

Which VM?

Which hosting application? Probably Oracle's Virtualbox. It's free, it's stupidly easy to set up (just remember to match the extensions package to the hot build version) and with hard drives so cheap it's economical vs. a bunch of hardware running a single OS.

BTW: I do run VM's on an external drive. It makes them fairly portable.

Thanks, that’s what I figured. I played with VMWare at one time but I think it’s no longer free.
