President Trumps eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., was promised damaging information about Hillary Clinton before agreeing to meet with a Kremlin-connected Russian lawyer during the 2016 campaign, according to three advisers to the White House briefed on the meeting and two others with knowledge of it.
The meeting was also attended by his campaign chairman at the time, Paul J. Manafort, and his son-in-law, Jared Kushner. Mr. Manafort and Mr. Kushner only recently disclosed the meeting, though not its content, in confidential government documents described to The New York Times.
The Times reported the existence of the meeting on Saturday. But in subsequent interviews, the advisers and others revealed the motivation behind it.
The meeting at Trump Tower on June 9, 2016, two weeks after Donald J. Trump clinched the Republican nomination points to the central question in federal investigations of the Kremlins meddling in the presidential election: whether the Trump campaign colluded with the Russians. The accounts of the meeting represent the first public indication that at least some in the campaign were willing to accept Russian help.
And while President Trump has been dogged by revelations of undisclosed meetings between his associates and the Russians, the episode at Trump Tower is the first such confirmed private meeting involving members of his inner circle during the campaign as well as the first one known to have included his eldest son. It came at an inflection point in the campaign, when Donald Trump Jr., who served as an adviser and a surrogate, was ascendant and Mr. Manafort was consolidating power.
It is unclear whether the Russian lawyer, Natalia Veselnitskaya, actually produced the promised compromising information about Mrs. Clinton. But the people interviewed by The Times about the meeting said the expectation was that she would do so.

Analysis | Donald Trump Jr.s stunningly incriminating statement to the New York Times
They quoted Don Jr. statement in the article:
In a statement on Sunday, Donald Trump Jr. said he had met with the Russian lawyer at the request of an acquaintance. After pleasantries were exchanged, he said, the woman stated that she had information that individuals connected to Russia were funding the Democratic National Committee and supporting Ms. Clinton. Her statements were vague, ambiguous and made no sense. No details or supporting information was provided or even offered. It quickly became clear that she had no meaningful information.
He said she then turned the conversation to adoption of Russian children and the Magnitsky Act, an American law that blacklists suspected Russian human rights abusers. The law so enraged President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia that he retaliated by halting American adoptions of Russian children.
It became clear to me that this was the true agenda all along and that the claims of potentially helpful information were a pretext for the meeting, Mr. Trump said.
Read that last part again: the claims of potentially helpful information were a pretext for the meeting.
Trump Jr. confirmed that he went into the meeting expecting to receive information from the Russian lawyer that could hurt Clinton. That is a breathtaking admission.

The left believes this could be concrete evidence of collusion because if Don Jr. was willing to meet with a Russian to get info damaging to Hillary, then who is to say that other members of Trump's team didn't meet with Russians to obtain info damaging to Hillary including colluding to hack the emails?
Don Jr. is saying that he was told that she had info that Russians were funding the DNC and Clinton campaign, but she provided no evidence. That would not necessarily be surprising to me because of Hillary's ties to Russia. In the post below, I'll link to blogpost I put together detailing Hillary's ties to Russia.
That said, I wonder what "acquaintance" decided to have them meet with this woman. Based on Don Jr.'s statement, it sounds like perhaps she used the line about info regarding Hillary and the Russians to get in the door to discuss the Magnitsky Act. Someone should have checked into this woman before meeting with her as her history does not appear to be of someone who would betray the Kremlin if they were working with Hillary and tell Trump's campaign:
The adoption impasse is a frequently used talking point for opponents of the Magnitsky Act. Ms. Veselnitskayas campaign against the law has also included attempts to discredit the man after whom it was named, Sergei L. Magnitsky, a lawyer and auditor who died in mysterious circumstances in a Russian prison in 2009 after exposing one of the biggest corruption scandals during Mr. Putins rule.
Ms. Veselnitskayas clients include state-owned businesses and a senior government officials son, whose company was under investigation in the United States at the time of the meeting. Her activities and associations had previously drawn the attention of the F.B.I., according to a former senior law enforcement official.

Ms. Veselnitskaya is a formidable operator with a history of pushing the Kremlins agenda. Most notable is her campaign against the Magnitsky Act, which provoked a Cold War-style, tit-for-tat dispute with the Kremlin when President Barack Obama signed it into law in 2012.
She says Kushner and Manafort were only there for 10 minutes, and there is certainly no proof from the meeting that any collusion occurred and certainly no proof this had anything to do with the email hacks and she wasn't there on Kremlin orders, but the left will use it to say that if they were willing to meet with Russians once to get info on Hillary (even though this info was said to be info about the Russians helping Hillary), then they could certainly do it again to collude on hacking emails. The Washington Post article proves it.
Hillary’s ties to Russia. Don’t just bring up Uranium to the liberals (way more ties than that):

What will they do when this falls flat, too?
Is Trump’s son a member of the White House staff or a private citizen?
They were set up with help from Fusion GPS.
It is way past time for the FBI to investigate Fusion GPS.
Wake up Jeff Sessions and do your job better.

Donald Trump Jr. gathered members of campaign for meeting with Russian lawyer before election
Yes. I’ve seen the liberal excitement over this and the Post’s hyperbole on this.
It’s a nothing burger.
These newspapers need to resort to obfuscation (near outright lying) to make this seem bad.
Bill Clinton actually met with Chinese Communist Party officials in his campaigns.
The ludicrous thing about these sensationalist articles is their mundaneness. It is supposed to be shocking that in a political campaign that one team met with people who said they had negative information about their opponent!
The horror. That never happened before in history!
Lol.
Visited a friend today in the hospital and he had on MSNBC. Not really watching it, but just landed on there.
This was “BREAKING NEWS!!!” complete with panels and guests and commentary. Only saw one Rand Paul staffer there to defend this.
And of course, they trotted out Mad Maxine to give her 2 counterfeit cents.
‘They’re all guilty of collusion, obstruction, election theft and now...money laundering’
To the interviewers credit, he did mention that there was no evidence of any of that, but Maxey cut him off and said that really doesn’t matter because she knows they are guilty and more time will prove her right.
So what?
“according to three advisers”
HAHAHAHA
They know that everyone is on to their #FAKENEWS using Mr. Anonymous Sources.
So they are now changing it from Anonymous Sources to “Advisors.”
Too funny!
I know the failing NYT needs to generate headlines but how long will they keep flogging this dead horse ?
Don Jr. is saying that he was told that she had info that Russians were funding the DNC and Clinton campaign...
This is so hypocritical of the press ...The press Hillary and the dnc have been looking for any Russian to bring them evidence that they were colluding with trump ....But if Trump listens to a Russian saying the same about Hillary that prove trump was colluding?
So now Both sides Hillary and Trump are found trying to prove the other side was colluding with the Russians... Trump had someone tells them somthing and they decided it was garbage
If opposition research is a crime the entire DNC would be in prison.
I don’t see the big deal either. They claimed to have dirt on Clinton, which wouldn’t have surprised any of us. The Clintons are as dirty as a septic tank. The meeting turned up nothing anyway. It does sound a little like the meeting was a set up.
Good thing Don Jr. didn’t hire a foreign spy to collude with Russians to produce a fake dossier on his opponent. He’d really, really be in trouble!

You really can’t assume there is anything credible to this story. But for the sake of argument, what if it’s 100% true? It’s completely meaningless.
Why isn’t any person connected to White House that is being interviewed on CNN and MSNBC telling them that the company connected to this gathering is connected to DNC and the discredited dossier and it appears to be a open and shut case on that part. Point that out and the media will stay mum or change the subject
What law does this violate?
Not going to get any accurate information on the Clintons from American sources sooo.... yeah.
Meanwhile Hillary Clinton has violated all sorts of federal laws and is an obvious felon, and nothing.
