Colorado now "going to pot"--Denver Library requiring police patrols due to drug dealing. Sad.

Recently, there was a report posted about the decline of the Denver Public Library, due to rampant drug usage and criminal activity. Apparently, a lot of the library "regulars" are homeless people who have been victimized by drug dealers who take over the bathrooms to do their deals. Other library users complain that the computer terminals are all taken up by the homeless people and back packing vagrants passing through the area, and that the place stinks. Apparently, the Denver Police have increased patrols and at least cleaned it up to some extent. They even closed off the bathrooms on two floors to try to be able to more effectively patrol the building.

It's really sad what has happened to Colorado, and this library situation epitomizes it. I just love the scenery and recreational opportunities offered there. CO used to be such a great state before it was taken over by "smarter than you" liberals.

But now, due to the liberal takeover, the state seems to be a preferred destination for pot loving losers, 60-70 year old burned out hippies, the homeless, and generally trashy people from across the country. If you travel on I-25, even the rest areas are trashy and run down. You'd think they would keep rest areas in good shape, as that is where many people form their opinion of a state.

We recently stayed a night at a Clarion hotel in downtown Greeley, CO. This hotel was said to be a "Convention Center" hotel, although, after staying there, I cannot for the life of me figure out why any company would hold a convention there. The actual hotel room was okay and clean, but the rest of the property was just generally run down, trashy, and in a general state of disrepair. In the men's bathroom near the reception area, there was toilet paper all over the floors, and the handle to the door was barely attached, appearing to be ready to fall off at any time. The areas around the exterior of the hotel were littered with trash of all sorts.

IMO, this story about what has happened with the Denver Library encapsulates what happens when the liberal, elitist Democrats take over a state. Does anybody who lives in CO know if there is any hope for CO turning things around?

“Free internet, vagrancy, abandonment—and now drug-dealing—have destroyed and made a mockery of the purpose of libraries.”

SOME libraries may have been destroyed but the libraries I use are as busy and active as ever-——with readers.

Apparently, a lot of the library "regulars" are homeless people who have been victimized by drug dealers who take over the bathrooms to do their deals.

I lived in the North Capitol Hill neighborhood from '98-'02 back when Wellington Webb was mayor and the downtown Denver public library was a haven for bums and criminality even back then. I can't see how legal weed has had anything to do with it.

Denver's homeless have been a long-time problem for the city and public buildings like libraries where they can come in out of the cold will always attract them. Shame too. Beautiful library. This, however, is nothing unusual for any big city.

I know it's fashionable here on FR to blame all of Colorado's problems on legal weed. It's also dishonest. Colorado didn't turn into a bastion of liberalism overnight. It's been ongoing for years.

I don't think this is a Colorado thing. We just did a road trip here out west. My husband walked into the bathroom twice while people were shooting up. Once outside of Portland, the other near the freeway in Napa Valley,CA. Another time we had to have our hotel room switched because previous customers left a stench of pot.

The country is falling apart. Anytime I leave my little bubble of normalcy, it is pretty damn shocking, even for me.

I live in Denver. Here is the story: sanctuary Denver and sanctuary Colorado are bringing illegals and Heroin to Denver. The main library is located across the street from civic center park which is where the bums are spending the day. Denver is giving more and more free services to the bums and therefore bums from all over the nation and from foreign countries are moving to Denver. Free food and free phones are given away to the bums near the library. The democrat leaders of Denver are expanding their programs to give more free housing to the bums. Tiny homes are being built for the bums. And of course more bums are moving to Denver. Illegal weed is more affordable than the taxed weed. Heroin is in plentiful supply from Mexico. Illegals who did felonies are plea bargained down to misdemeanors so they can stay in Colorado. The children of the illegals will vote democrat and the democrats will rull Colorado forever. That is the plan.

I just got back from a road trip in CO, WY, and ID. All I can say is, it sure seems a relief to me when I get out of CO and into WY. ID is very nice as well.

And the cities will brag about how they will use the money for treatment and education and then don't. Bureaucrats can't help themselves and will spend it on pet programs and pork.

It is all a scam.

To add to your post notice how many busy intersections these days are occupied by pan handlers begging motorists for $. One guy recently was a young strapping man wearing an NFL jersey. Pathetic. These beggars at intersections are becoming epidemic.

That’s not a library. It’s a flop house.

Oh yeah, you’re exactly right and I did notice that but forgot to mention it. There were young men on most every intersection with signs of hard luck stories. I even saw a couple of them seeming to be discussing where they were going to position themselves.

And the latest: Apparently transgenders are complaining about heterosexual men not being interested in them and of course not wanting relationships and so the solution is to force hetero men to date transgenders.

It is not and never was about coexistence and tolerance and all about control and force.

Insane!

‘There have been 14 overdoses at the library since Jan. 1, Henning said. The Central Library began stocking kits with Narcan nasal spray to treat overdoses in February, after a 25-year-old man died of an overdose. The kits have been used nine times since.’

Like, yeah, the lie-berry good for buying/using heroin and such.

Pot is really complicated.

Some people make a lot of money off it.

Some people use it as medicine.

Some people use it to run from reality.

Some people like the excitement of breaking the law.

Some people are happy to see others using it as they think not using it gives them an advantage.

It’s a mess.

The only way to solve the problem is to raise children who are strong and courageous enough to stay away from it.

Plus, a large section of downtown Denver (where the homeless used to hang out) is completely gentrified with million dollar condos. Example: the Confluence Park area, all along Market street.

The rich people live there now and they do not want winos and druggies harassing the ladies while they are doing yoga.

Wonder soon they will start complaining that they don’t have enough money for social services that these people use? Chicago and Illinois are bankrupt and yet the are sanctuaries for illegals.

It’s not just Denver. A 2-week vacation in CO last summer allowed me to understand the three-legged stool of CO economic development, especially in small towns. The most out-of-the-way places could be counted on to have a pot shop next door to a tattoo parlor and down the street from a brew pub. At least the brew pubs generally had dual redeeming values of good beer and good food so they have that going for them.

Why are there so many drug deals? I thought you could just get pot legally in CO now?

Or did legal pot draw legions of harder drug users from the rest of the country? Who knew?
