Recently, there was a report posted about the decline of the Denver Public Library, due to rampant drug usage and criminal activity. Apparently, a lot of the library "regulars" are homeless people who have been victimized by drug dealers who take over the bathrooms to do their deals. Other library users complain that the computer terminals are all taken up by the homeless people and back packing vagrants passing through the area, and that the place stinks. Apparently, the Denver Police have increased patrols and at least cleaned it up to some extent. They even closed off the bathrooms on two floors to try to be able to more effectively patrol the building.
It's really sad what has happened to Colorado, and this library situation epitomizes it. I just love the scenery and recreational opportunities offered there. CO used to be such a great state before it was taken over by "smarter than you" liberals.
But now, due to the liberal takeover, the state seems to be a preferred destination for pot loving losers, 60-70 year old burned out hippies, the homeless, and generally trashy people from across the country. If you travel on I-25, even the rest areas are trashy and run down. You'd think they would keep rest areas in good shape, as that is where many people form their opinion of a state.
We recently stayed a night at a Clarion hotel in downtown Greeley, CO. This hotel was said to be a "Convention Center" hotel, although, after staying there, I cannot for the life of me figure out why any company would hold a convention there. The actual hotel room was okay and clean, but the rest of the property was just generally run down, trashy, and in a general state of disrepair. In the men's bathroom near the reception area, there was toilet paper all over the floors, and the handle to the door was barely attached, appearing to be ready to fall off at any time. The areas around the exterior of the hotel were littered with trash of all sorts.
IMO, this story about what has happened with the Denver Library encapsulates what happens when the liberal, elitist Democrats take over a state. Does anybody who lives in CO know if there is any hope for CO turning things around?
You just don’t understand. This is a legal drug and illegal sales, coupled with legal sales, will drive drug use down to almost nothing, in short order.
An increase in supply of anything makes demand and use plummet to zero.
Right, Nathan?
Rocky mountain HIGHHHHHHH!
Kind of makes you wonder, people always write columns and brag about the big money dope brings into a state, so where does all that money go?
Most die hard dopers I have ever known are too lazy to worry about keeping things tidy.
I guess there is a trade off. Some people get filthy rich and some people just get the filth.
FYI
Geez. Maybe it’s road trip time to NV and the local dispensaries. But I thought I saw something yesterday about the NV folks running low and out in some cases. Oh well, back to the streets and illegal sales I suppose. New meaning to “Smoke ‘em if you got ‘em.”
I-25 from Denver down to Raton has been a giant gravel pit since before the turn of the century.
Damn pot smokers cars make more pot holes than everyone else, I guess.
This is going to be a problem with any “public space” where a large homeless population exists.
McDonald’s in Santa Monica, CA has had to deal with Santa Monica’s city leaders demanding SM be a “welcome place” for homeless:
“Brawl Breaks Out After Security Guard Asks Homeless To Leave McDonalds”
It didnt take long for things to escalate once the security guard asked the two sleeping homeless men to leave the McDonalds...
Mark Prague is homeless, and admits the 24 hour McDonalds is a refuge from the streets in this area.
This is the only place everybodys got to come, he said.
Anyone remember: “Hate Ashbury”...”Make Peace not War”...”Woodstock”...
We are right back to there, from Berkley, demonstrations, masks, and who is running the Congress and most of the Government Departments: “Make Peace not War” ...
I look forward to cutting off federal funds for anything related to helping anyone doing drugs. At that point, we could then get a clearer picture of the burdens on the state versus the benefits of those drugs to that state.
And that state would own it all.
Why are dealers doing deals in bathrooms if pot is legal? Is the state charging so much in taxes as to make it profitable for the illegal dealers to stay in business? If so, Colorado is losing out on tax money, and it’s their fault....
Public Libraries were great places when I was a kid. They still were when I was a young adult.
Once the internet hit and schools decided that reading skills weren’t all that, they became shelters with free internet that happened to have books in them. Some people even use them as playgrounds and day-cares for their kids because theirs always a responsible public servoce around to call the cops.
Free internet, vagrancy, abandonmentand now drug-dealinghave destroyed and made a mockery of the purpose of libraries.
Through public assistance to the very users who buy it in the first place.
It’s money laundering.
Then there’s the drug tourism.
All part of keeping the rat’s in power in the big urbans.
Gee, whoda thought it would come to this?
Will other states recognize the realities before going down the legalization path?
Nah, the tax revenue is too tempting.
Bums sleep in the library. The police already patrol there.
Should be: “ Some people even use them as playgrounds and day-cares for their kids because there’s always a responsible public servant around to call the cops ”
We must not complain.
We must not question.
The gays and the potheads are our overlords now.
They are now the establishment.
The Gay Ole Pothead establishment.
The new GOPe.
Nice rant.
Shouldn’t this be on Yelp?
Yup, just like their previously-outcast homo brethren, the weedwankers started out wanting just a limited amount of room to maneuver, but once achieved, they wanted the whole enchilada. It was always the Gay Ole Pothead establishment's (GOPe's) plan.
It’s all explained in a July 7 article in the Denver Post, which for some reason is not allowed to be posted here. Should be easy to find.
