For some unknown reason Barack Obama met with South Korea’s new leader almost immediately after he returned from a meeting with President Trump. The Korea Herald reports:
President Moon Jae-in renewed his resolve to pursue sanctions and dialogue to tackle North Korea’s nuclear program during a meeting with former US President Barack Obama on Monday, saying now is the “last chance” for the regime to return to the negotiating table.
During the 40-minute talk, Moon shared the results of his recent summit with his incumbent US counterpart Donald Trump, asking for Obama’s advice on ways to advance the relationship.
This could be construed as a violation of the Logan Act as defined by Cornell Law School:
Any citizen of the United States, wherever he may be, who, without authority of the United States, directly or indirectly commences or carries on any correspondence or intercourse with any foreign government or any officer or agent thereof, with intent to influence the measures or conduct of any foreign government or of any officer or agent thereof, in relation to any disputes or controversies with the United States, or to defeat the measures of the United States, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than three years, or both.

Passports and visas are required to enter most countries. Private jets must clear customs upon entry or re-entry onto US soil. Not all airports have customs facilities, so arriving aircraft must land at a customs staffed airport as a first stop, have passports checked, and declare items on board before they can proceed.

Is it not dangerous for our national interests for an ex president to conduct foreign diplomacy?

The question of his citizenship was never an issue. It was a question of whether he was a “Natural Born” citizen.

The little whippers are usually born with innate curiosity. It is the parents' job to foster that curiosity. It is usually hard to foster when both parents are working or divorced. Even then, all is not lost but you must work at it. I tend to blame narcissistic parents more than the kids, but that's a post for another day.
Candidly, I see LOTS of Millennials who will be strong members of the Deplorable class. I also see lots who will be swept up by statism. That is why engaging them in fora like FR is vital. Then, when someone asks about the Logan Act, they will carry on the tradition, and those at the margin MIGHT come over to the side of the Light and maybe even be saved. Wishful thinking, yes, but ya gotta believe.

Yes Obama just “happened” to be in Korean neighborhood ahead of NORKS launch ICBM. Just “happened” to be in Italy ahead of Trump visit. Just “happened” to be in Germany, speaking with Merkel, just before Trump at NATO summit.
Will he “happen” to be in Poland or near G20 summit next? Or perhaps a meeting with Putin before or after Trumps.
