It's a common retort among those who have to work with President Trump but don't appreciate his tweeting: The president can do two things at once.
Trump allies' argument goes like this: The fact of the matter is that he can do more than one thing at a time, Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price said on NBC's Meet the Press on Sunday.
That's technically true. The president can send a tweet while he's in a meeting. He could probably send several. It takes all of a couple seconds a couple minutes, max to formulate and post a 140-character tweet. But that argument misses the point entirely. The president is not undermining his agenda because he takes a few minutes out of his day to tweet. He's at risk of undermining his White House because of what he tweets.
Especially lately, he's posted content on his Twitter account that is so shockingly outside the norms of civility let alone the norms for a president that its political and cultural reverberations take the national conversation miles away from policy.
The Compost seems to have a much tougher problem with honest messaging.
Why would the compost spill the beans and tell him what he’s doing wrong? Do they suddenly care about him?
If Trump can get by on but 4 hr of sleep, he has plenty of time to tweet a few lines/day.
I dunno there, fake news. Seems I got the message loud and clear that the fake news is fake and the festering swamp lives off the fake news. Anyone with a brain can see that. Oh.....right.
Does the Compost play their Sousa March in the halls of the joint? On the phones for peeps waiting?
The traditional view is that a White House puts out its message for the fake news media to destroy it, then sits back and takes it.
For months now, Trump has tweeted out “messages” that have nothing to do with his policies. They are like bug zappers, attracting the roaches to the motel while the REAL policies are being implemented without comment.
Now, the “traditionalists” say “he should be publicizing his achievements.” But that requires a somewhat willing press—a press at least willing to discuss the achievements rationally. They won’t. Not even close. Do Trump does the next best thing. He has them not covered at all. People will see and feel the results-—they don’t need the media to tell them their economic situation is better, or that regulations are lower.
Thanks to OneVike for the above.
Of course the walk and chew metaphor sucks; but the fact is, Trump is running circles around the compost, all while brushing the nattering nabobs off his lapel like the little nits that they are.
“...outside the norms of civility let alone the norms for a president...”
So, Amber...You are saying that the messages from the left ARE civil???...LOL!!!
BTW, President Trump is NOT your “normal” president...He is FOR America and the people, not just the “professional political” elites...
“He’ll implode any day now.”
I like how your post and my post #9 integrate bug-zapping metaphors. Reminds me a lot of the truth.
It’s excellent.
More liberal projection -- that's what they have been doing.
See, for example, the play in New York city where someone looking like the president is murdered, or the woman holding a bloody decapitated head -- which looks just like the president.
Those acts are what is "shockingly outside the norms of civility"
The American people are loving the fact that we finally have a President who doesn't take shit from the liberal media.
And Sarah Huckabee Sanders is doing a great job with the press conferences. She's not taking shit either and the liberal media doesn't know how to handle it.
Did Trump pay wp to be his messaging consultant? Trump’s freedom if press and freedom of speech must not be trumpled by oligarch-owned media coroprations.
