And which one of us DIDN'T have a Great Big AMERICAN Car?

One of my favorites.... They're singing about my 1975 Pontiac Bonneville... 200 bucks, 46K miles, and CLEAN...

Sigh... I miss those days.

I had some amazing cars when I was young including my all time favorite 1955 Chrysler Imperial. That car was incredible.

I remember hearing about them for the first time back in 1984. I was working for the summer in Pottstown, PA, and they had just been signed to their record deal. They broke nationally the next spring/summer.

I learned to drive on a 1972 Impala. My brother had a 1970 Olds 98. I had a 1965 Chrysler 300 hardtop Coupe. My sister had a Mercury Grand Marquis and a full-sized RWD Buick in the '80s. Other sister had a 1980's Chevy Caprice Wagon. We now have a '94 Buick Roadmaster wagon with the 350 ci LT-1 engine.

I LOVE big cars.

My first big American car was a 1965 Chevy Impala which died after I put a quarter million miles on it. The next was a 1957 Ford Fairlane, which I used as my regular car during the early 1980’s. Next, I got a 1983 Ford LTD, which was wrecked when it was hit while parked by an illegal alien drunk driver. After that, I got a 1972 Chevy Impala which ran fine after I got the transmission redone, but whenever it rained, water leaked into the trunk from the rear window—a design flaw in GM cars of the period.

After that, I got another 1973 LTD with a 429 motor that was a ticket hazard—If you weren’t careful, you could find yourself going more than 100 mph without much effort. But it was also a gas slurper. This car was stolen while parked and locked on a busy street in broad daylight—and I had the key with me.

My final big car was a 1984 Ford LTD Crown Victoria that I drove 300,000+ miles despite numerous mechanical problems.

1971 Ford Torino, with a Cleveland V8. Mine was gray. I loved that car.

Sadly, I wrecked it in '79... :-(

1969 Pontiac Grand Prix SJ with the 428 390 HP 118 inch wheelbase and the biggest doors and longest hood I’ve ever seen on a vehicle. Automatic with the console shifter, first one I ever owned with buckets and a console shift.

1967 Plymouth Fury, 4 door. It was a boat and a tank all in one.

1967 Buick Wildcat, great car, eight college kids fit into it no sweat. Positraction worked great, unless it was coming off the beach at Daytona. Buried it up to the fender skirts there once crossing the dry sand/dune line. Some jerk in a Jeep stopped on purpose to get us stuck. He succeeded. Talk about a cruiser though, a very cushy living room on wheels. Other than that sand seemingly nothing could stop it.

Great completely underrated 80s band. Give ‘South Ferry Road’ a listen.
