“Only You” by The Platters. As much a classic as anything written by Beethoven. They should have put that song on that disc carried by the Pioneer spacecraft out of the solar system.

I just posted that Platters song; I love how nicely dressed they are; and they had to use their voices without technological corrections.

“Yes! The Platters and The Drifters were dominant!”

They sure were in that group. Like a lot of us on here those songs were in my teenage years. I remember them well.

I forgot to say I still have a lot of those records from the day.

Is there a broadly accepted set of criteria as to just what “Doo-Wop” actually is? I ask this due to being a native Carolinian and knowing that some of what is termed “Doo-Wop” in the northeast is known as beach music here. Our definition of beach music is 100-130+ beats per minute in 4/4 time, generally from the early-mid fifties through to the mid-sixties.

So, what is “Doo-Wop?” Is Sleep Walk by Santo and Johnny considered “Doo-Wop?” Love that one.

Interesting. Doo wop seems like a form of R&B. It sounds like it evolved from the Black singers from the pre and post WW2 era, The Inkspots, The Mills Bros, etc.

Several years ago David Gold subbed on a talk show for a while. He played doo-wop.

His website was goldtalk.com. He was conservative. I would listen again if he is on anywhere.

Thank you! I’ve been a fan of FZ’s for about 35 years and I never knew about this song. FR is the best place to learn new things.

My uncle currently lives there. I grew up a few miles east of there in Pelham Bay. I moved outta the Bronx the same year as your Impala. Between 10th and 11th grades.
I only go back for Yankees games.

Another requirement: It has to be able to be sung a capella, under a street lamp.

WOW! What a small world. We lived in Pelham Bay also, just off the Hutch. I went to PS71, we moved to Rockland Cty in 1966 after I finished 4th grade.
