Is there a broadly accepted set of criteria as to just what “Doo-Wop” actually is? I ask this due to being a native Carolinian and knowing that some of what is termed “Doo-Wop” in the northeast is known as beach music here. Our definition of beach music is 100-130+ beats per minute in 4/4 time, generally from the early-mid fifties through to the mid-sixties.

So, what is “Doo-Wop?” Is Sleep Walk by Santo and Johnny considered “Doo-Wop?” Love that one.

Interesting. Doo wop seems like a form of R&B. It sounds like it evolved from the Black singers from the pre and post WW2 era, The Inkspots, The Mills Bros, etc.
