Physicians are influenced by marketing. That's no surprise. So are most consumers, as evidenced by television and radio commercials, billboards, pop up ads and targeted ads for drugs on your computer screen. Big Pharma markets not only to physicians, but also directly to consumers.
In a recent Washington Post op-ed, Dr. Nicole Van Gronigen made the case that Big Pharma successfully influences physician prescribing behavior via marketing. Specifically, drug reps do with with free lunches provided by the pharmaceutical reps, or educational dinners at nice restaurants. She reported a JAMA study correlating industry-sponsored meals with increased promotion of branded medication to Medicare patients.
It's no surprise that marketing works. If it didn't, Big Pharma would not spend $24 billion per year on it -- more than they spend on research and development. And perhaps, as Dr. Van Gronigen suggests, restricting pharma reps' access to physicians may yield cost savings in healthcare. But is it really that simple?

Statins kill.
Instead, solve the problem.
The pharma industry looks at most holistic practitioners as quacks, and they are. Anyone who thinks the industry is killing quacks to promote sales of their products needs his/her head examined.

Nutritionists. Our diet, processed foods, and the Epstein virus. from what I’ve heard and read.

Government will save us if we grant them enough power. Freedom is so overrated. People making decisions in their own interest is dangerous. We should all be like you and have a safe space from the big bad pharmaceutical companies. First they control your mind, then they take your precious bodily fluids.
Holistic “doctors” are not physicians. I would guess the family members of these hucksters likely did them in. Are there any other big industries that are villains too, or is it just those that sell life-saving drugs. If drug companies are such villains, why buy any of their products? It’s a choice, not a requirement to buy drugs.
Type II diagnosis in December after having been on statins since 2003. Hit me like a ton of brick.””
I’m sorry for your misfortune, but type II diabetes was seen a million times before statins were in existence.
Holistic doctors aren't immortal? Weird!
