EPA administrator Scott Pruitt identified the gym memberships as an abuse of taxpayer dollars!
The Environmental Protection Agency has ended a nearly $1 million program that provided gym memberships for employees.
The new administration under EPA administrator Scott Pruitt identified the gym memberships as an abuse of taxpayer dollars. Examples of the program's misuse included $15,000 for gym memberships for 37 EPA scientists in Las Vegas last year.
"We have ended taxpayer-funded fitness centers at EPA; a program that was costing American taxpayers $900,000 per year," said EPA spokesperson Jahan Wilcox. "Disinvestment in using federal funds for EPA fitness centers will allow the agency to invest this money in core activities to protect the environment."

The newest fad idea among health insurers and businesses is that if you get a gym membership and go, they will save a lot in the long run on heart attacks, strokes etc.
Goo in theory, as many things are.
TERRIBLE in real life because no one goes.
WOOOOHOOOOO! HOORAY Scott Pruitt. Thank you, sir.
You know, these EPA “employees” need to realize they are “servants” and lucky to have a job at all. And this is who the Marxist Obama hired lo lord over us? They need to be flipping burgers for a living out in the real country.
WOOHOO!!!
All this winning! Can we stand it?
Yep...bring it on! :)
They probably have their own PRIVATE gym...which they should be paying dues out of their pockets to join!
Again, absorb [eliminate] the Departments of Energy, Interior, and EPA by subsuming them into Homeland Security.
They got their gym memberships paid for?? Wow...
Several years ago, our local rural fire district built a new HQ station, and had a fully equipped weight room included. The excuse was to keep the firefighters in good condition.
That fire chief is no longer employed, as he was bent on creating a monster fire department with lots of people standing around waiting on fires to happen.
After several board member changes, a more reasonable chief was hired.
Enh. The more time they spent at the gym, the less time they spent finding ways to mind other people’s business. Now they’ll be able to declare more lawns ‘wetlands’ because of big puddles in the driveway, or prevent people from cutting underbrush abutting their property, because some stupid bird has a nest there.
Winning would be getting these assholes to pay the money spent back into the treasury. Now that is winning..
Yeah, just think why are there 37 SCIENTISTS in the desert in the first place and now why keep them around after you piss them off. Just think of the regulations that they can come up with now. Put them on the bread line
Many health insurance companies will pay for a gym membership too. And investment banking groups also.
The idea was that people would get in shape and there’s be less heart attacks and strokes, which are MUCH MORE expensive in the long run.
But no one used them except the people already in shape :)
Our shop has its own gym, fairly decent for about 40-60 people but only a handful of us use it regularly. We do our own cleaning and upkeep except for equipment repairs.
Wow.a gym membership.
And those of us at other agencies, especially outside of D.C., buy our own pencils and pens...
There’s much more crap where that came from. Keep going.
Here's an idea, lets not. Simply don't spend the money.
It would be interesting to view the EPA parking lot to see their rides.
BRAVO!
Good news.
The EPA should be solving problems like this:
