A notoriously corrupt Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) manager fired in the first day of President Donald Trumps presidency to rousing acclaim from veterans who heralded it as a sign of lasting reform has been returned to work by VA officials after he filed a civil-service protections appeal.
The return of the Puerto Rico hospital director is the latest example of Trumps reform efforts encountering the entrenchment of what he has called Washingtons swamp, and comes in the same month a court ruled that the VA may not even be able to fire the Phoenix hospital director, who is a convicted felon as a result of job-related misconduct.
On the morning of January 20, 2017, the Department removed DeWayne Hamlin, the director of the VA Caribbean Healthcare System, from the federal civil service. Mr. Hamlin subsequently appealed his removal to the Merit Systems Protection Board (MSPB), and because of particulars in his case that remains under active litigation, he was brought back to work at VA, spokesman James Hutton told The Daily Caller News Foundation.
As we have underscored since January 20, President Trump and Secretary [David] Shulkin have made employee accountability at VA a top priority, and we will continue to take appropriate disciplinary actions with our employees. The Secretary in this case was not able to overturn this decision once he was made aware of it. We need this ability in new legislation.

Congress could fix this nonsense in a day with a bill sent to the President for his signature.
I’m not holding my breath.
How out of control is government? It takes an act of Congress to fire one of these people.
Private sector tax payers? They can be fired on the stop for little or no reason.
This is bull sh*t folks.
President Trump has been waiting far too long for things to turn around. The Shadow Government and those pols who really work for it, not us, are now wounded animals. They're fighting back with everything they have. It's past time for this administration to get lean and mean and clever in achieving victory. The coup is ongoing and it's real. I was hoping the worst of the traitors had been hauled away in handcuffs before President Trump returned to DC.
The Congressional RINOcrats are as traitorous as the Demonicrats.
And the rest of the Republicans are gutless cowards.
Damn.
It’s all B.S. what’s going on. Let’s just have this civil war, officially split the country and be done with it. I am at a point where I don’t even want to be part of the same country as deranged liberals. I despise them all.
They Bureaucracy Strikes Back.
Our entire civil service system needs to be badly overhauled to be able to fire people as necessary instead of having a guaranteed job for life.
“Why can’t these undesirables be reassigned to a janitorial staff or something even less desirable? “
I’ve suggested before that the VA or IRS open an administrative center on Wake or Midway island. Reassign the guys their. Give them housing and no duties. If they don’t want the assignment then they can quit.
How do we eliminate these civil service protections? A whole lot of them need to be purged.
Can’t fire him? Put him out to VA pasture.
The POTUS needs to win this one.
Civil Service is flexing their muscle just because they can.
In the meantime our Veterans are treated like those in the 3rd world countries.
The swamp may not be drainable, short of WWIV and massive loss of American life and distruption of the economy. Which I think will eventually happen anyway.
Yep, just give Medicaid-like benefits to any veteran who applies for. That way they can be treated in their own home town.
So many solutions. One of which is to just ignore the bloody judge.
Congress is run by the uniparty establishment.
it seems elections don’t matter
The bureaucracy runs itself, with the protection of the intelligence community and Deep State.
And they all live off massive debt and a completely printed, unbacked currency.
Rubber room these wastes of protoplasm. No computer, no phone, no nothing, nothing to do. Have to ask a veteran’s permission to enter or leave.
