It is urgent for Americans to think and speak clearly about President Trumps inability to do either. This seems to be not a mere disinclination but a disability. It is not merely the result of intellectual sloth but of an untrained mind bereft of information and married to stratospheric self-confidence.
In February, acknowledging Black History Month, Trump said that Frederick Douglass is an example of somebody whos done an amazing job and is getting recognized more and more, I notice. Because Trump is syntactically challenged, it was possible and tempting to see this not as a historical howler about a man who died 122 years ago, but as just another of Trumps verbal fender benders, this one involving verb tenses...
What is most alarming (and mortifying to the University of Pennsylvania, from which he graduated) is not that Trump has entered his eighth decade unscathed by even elementary knowledge about the nations history. As this column has said before, the problem isnt that he does not know this or that, or that he does not know that he does not know this or that. Rather, the dangerous thing is that he does not know what it is to know something...

Really.
I always have the same reaction to his writings.
I hear a voice saying "you are getting very sleepy....veryyyyy sssslllleeeeeeppyyy."
At least he knows his a$$ from a hole in the ground unlike Obama boy will the shill.
Other than the laughably irrelevant criticism of Trump’s use of verb tense, is there any presumed substance whatsoever in Will’s article? I can’t bear to read the whole thing.
I have despised George Will for over a quarter century. A man who sold his soul for many years to TV’s “This week” series.
Just a highly paid prostitute.
Can you look in the mirror, George ?
“Mind your language, please; there are ladies present.”
Oh no, don’t mind me! If he hadn’t said it I was going to!!!

To paraphrase Mark Steyn recently sitting in for Rush: for a man who trades in words, George Will fails to understand Trump’s natural ability to communicate with his supporters.
Also disappointing that Will is mocking what he perceives to be a disability. Perhaps that’s how he makes a buck — mocking disabilities...
Picky, picky.
I'm pretty sure the president knows Frederick Douglass isn't alive now.
Anyway, people were saying the same thing about Eisenhower's syntax, and Ike did fine.
In fact, there was a certain degree of strategy behind it: If liberals were criticizing Ike's language, they weren't making more substantive criticism and they were also alienating a large part of the population.
Eisenhower also used shaky syntax to get around the media and duck questions he didn't want to answer.

Quote for the day: "I am a Republican, a black, dyed in the wool Republican, and I never intend to belong to any other party than the party of freedom and progress." -- Frederick Douglass
Will’s time has past he just doesn’t know it!
Getting a paywall from WaPo, so no thanks. And I was sooooo looking forward to George’s wisdom.
George should be put in the same box of “used toys” with Beck. Both have lost their own minds because of their preoccupation with Trump hatred. The stuff that comes out of Will’s mouth just isn’t worth knowing anymore.
Trump may tease his hair—but he doesn’t wear an ugly WIG like Will does.
I’m sure wIll gets around to using the word ‘mendacity’ at some point in his whiny article.
When I hear statements like this I wonder what vocal coaches suggest they could improve the careers of Ricardo Montalban or Charo by Americanizing their speech.
Will will be remembered mostly for his bowtie, if at all.
I would bet on “...if at all.”
We live in a world where Vice Presidents are forgotten just a few years out of office, and even cabinet members are forgotten even if you knew who they were.
Newspaper columnist are even lower on the pecking order. A year after his death 90% of the people who currently recognize his name will have forgotten him. Ten years and I would say it would increase to 99%.
When it is all said and done, President Trump will be remembered, George Will be George Who.
How many skyscrapers has Georgie Will built?
Well,I am a lady, and I don’t like being subjected to foul language.
Russian moles? I swear, this George Will mental crack up and Bill Krystol’s own bitterly emotional collapse certainly do the work of Russian goals for causing divisiveness and political warfare.
Don’t need to pay any attention to this has been. His words are empty. Retire George. Go while you still have an ounce of dignity.
DJT communicates in a manner that “real people” identify with. Imagine if he had spoken like George Will at his rallies. Boring an audience to death isn’t a good plan.
I find it most amusing that George Will believes Donald Trump to be so stupid that he doesn’t even know to find out how stupid he is...
...yes, the same Donald Trump that became a multi-billionaire in a few decades, starting from a $1 million loan...
...and the same Donald Trump who became President a year and a half of being mocked (by the likes of Will) by the entire media/press corps, defeating both the entrenched Republican field and the darling of the Dems/Left (who had over $1 billion of financing and the unadulterated admiration of the entire media/press corps.
Yep, Georgy, you hit that one on the head...DJT is a certified moron. Geez, he’s only a multi-billionaire and the POTUS when he could have been a self-absorbed, self-worshipping, pontificating wind-bag like...Georgy. Wow, what a failure Trump is, what a waste of a life. Damn, George, you really hit that one out of the park - you putz.
