The late-night TV audience appears to be splitting into two distinct groups, ratings data out Tuesday reveals.
While The Late Show with Stephen Colbert attracted more total viewers for the 12th straight week widening its lead last week over its NBC rival NBCs The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, for the week ended April 21, widened its lead in the demographic favored by advertisers.

Competitor Colbert has had some success being the anti-Trump guy, post election.
So, apparently Fallon's handlers have told him to go full bore anti-Trump. Lately, every single joke in the monologue has involved Trump. And many of his bits needlessly single out Trump. He reeks of the scent of desperate used car salesman.
Anyway, his antics have apparently helped stabilize his ratings. Time will tell, but I believe he is slowly turning off people like me, and trading us for a much more fickle leftist bunch who will call him every name in the book if he slips in their eyes - even supporting the 'wrong' democrat is a sin in these lunatics' eyes.
So good luck, Jimmy. I'm going to bed a few minutes earlier from now on.
I think Fallon is very talented, but I could never get past those bug-eyes of his.
I always assumed that many more leftists watched these shows but I am not sure why I assumed that :)
I used to like Conan on NBC.
Now he’s gone left along with the station he is at.
Haven’t watched since Joan Rivers was guest host......................
You are correct. Conservative types have jobs to go to in the morning, so we don't watch as much..................
I’m asleep before he comes on.
Night night
Colbert....paid political whore
Political pollsters have taken a fully-deserved whipping for their arrogance and inaccuracy.
But Nielsen and other researchers are well overdue for a similar comeuppance especially as their flawed data often results in programming becoming dumb and dumber.
As ESPN employees are discovering to their chagrin today, pay-per-program and/or streaming are the future. Network lineups and ‘talent’ are relics of the 60s.
Fallon is obviously not even listening to Louis. He's just asking questions, trying to come up with witty ripostes (which end up being non sequiturs) and mugging for the camera.
What a complete tool!
My dad was a Conservative, and a huge Johnny Carson fan.
Johnny was smart enough to distribute the punchlines to both sides of the aisle.
It's like people who will buy a blu-ray/whatever of their favorite movie, then, when they see it on their TV while channel surfing, sit and watch it(with commercials/cuts)anyway...I guess all that conditioning/indoctrinating done by the MSM over the decades requires a detox.
None of these guys are even remotely funny, and Colbert(like Letterman before him)is just a dem.-talking-point hack disguised as "just an entertainer".
The trash who barely laid a glove on 'bami for 8 years now feel safe(many exhilarated)to relieve themselves on the Republican/white-guy.
I’m done with ALL of the late-night shows, with rare exceptions: If one of them has a guest on that I want to see. I’ll DVR the show, watch that segment only, then delete it.
My dad is a Nielsen household and their data is tested in multiple ways you don’t see. It is a first class operation.
I don’t watch either any longer for that reason. Conan is very funny and Jimmy is very talented, but I grew very tired of them parroting lefty talking points, and I won’t give them the ratings.
“commie-sponsored canned garbage from the rabbit-ears age.”
Well, in my defense, rabbit ears is exactly how I get my TV signal.
LOL
I could never stand that guy more than a few minutes : A fifty-something pathetic, embarrassing delusional loser acting like a teenager with ambitions of humor with Abbott and Costello touches.
An embarrassment; but presumably, if he has the desired political effect on the great uninformed ignorant masses, his goal is achieved.
I always wondered what normal, mentally healthy adult watches so-called comedians between 11 pm and 2 am...
